Do You Need a Prescription for 5-Amino-1MQ? Is It Legal to Buy Online?

This page answers the legal and prescription question only. If you already want the prescription route and want the steps and price, see the how to get 5-Amino-1MQ page and the 5-Amino-1MQ cost page. This is general information, not legal advice, and the rules in this area move.

5-Amino-1MQ (Injectable)
5-Amino-1MQ$219/mo

Yes. In the United States, 5-Amino-1MQ meant for a person to inject is a prescription medication: a physician licensed in your state has to prescribe it, and a licensed pharmacy has to compound it for you by name. Vials sold online without a prescription can be sold only because the seller labels them "research use only" and disclaims human use. Compounded 5-Amino-1MQ is not FDA approved, and unlike most compounds sold beside it, the FDA has never evaluated it for compounding at all: as of September 2026 it is in no category of the 503A interim policy and has never been before the advisory committee.

Do You Need a Prescription for 5-Amino-1MQ? Is It Legal to Buy Online?

The short answer

Question Answer, as of September 2026
Do you need a prescription for injectable 5-Amino-1MQ? Yes. It is dispensed lawfully only on a prescription
Is it legal to buy 5-Amino-1MQ online? Yes, through a telehealth provider that issues a prescription and has a licensed pharmacy fill it
Is a "research use only" vial a legal sale? The sale is lawful because human use is disclaimed on the label
Is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide? No. It is a small synthetic molecule, 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium
Is it FDA approved? No. It is not approved and is not a component of any approved drug, and compounded medications are not FDA approved
Has the FDA flagged it as a safety risk? No. It has never been placed in Category 2 and has no published FDA safety-risk finding
Has the FDA evaluated it for compounding? No. It is in no 503A category and has never been before the advisory committee
Is a capsule the same product? No. Pepti supplies it as an injection only, and capsule doses do not convert to syringe units
Is it allowed in tested sport? Not named on the 2026 WADA List, but the S0 catch-all may still apply

At Pepti, 5-Amino-1MQ is $219 a month all-in: a 5 mL multi-dose vial containing 5 mg of 5-Amino-1MQ (1 mg/mL), with physician review, refill management and refrigerated shipping included and no membership fee.

Why 5-Amino-1MQ needs a prescription

  • It is a drug, whatever the chemistry

5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide. It is a small molecule built on a quinolinium ring, with no amino acids in it, designed in a medicinal chemistry program at the University of Texas Medical Branch to block one enzyme, nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). That matters for the science, but it does not change the legal question. What makes something a prescription drug in US law is how it is used and whether it is safe to use without a practitioner, not whether it is a peptide. The longer chemistry answer is in is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide.

  • The statute that creates prescription-only drugs

Section 503(b) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act defines a prescription drug as one that is not safe for use except under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, including because of the method of its use. A compound injected under the skin, with no human trial behind it, meets that test plainly. Such a drug may be dispensed only on a prescription, and the rule attaches to whoever dispenses it. That is the structural reason a grey market of unprescribed vials exists at all.

  • Why a compounded version is lawful without FDA approval

A new drug normally needs an approved application before it can be sold. Section 503A of the same Act exempts a drug compounded for an identified individual patient, on a valid prescription, by a licensed pharmacist in a state-licensed pharmacy, from the approval requirement. The prescription is the legal event that makes the sale possible, not paperwork added to it. Are peptides legal in the US and what is a 503A compounding pharmacy walk through the framework.

Where 5-Amino-1MQ stands with the FDA

Most compounded peptides have a 2023 to 2026 history with the FDA's Category 2 list and its Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee. 5-Amino-1MQ does not, and that is the most important thing to understand about its legal position.

What the FDA maintains Where 5-Amino-1MQ appears
The approved drug list Not approved, and not a component of any approved drug
USP monographs No monograph
The 503A bulks list in 21 CFR 216.23 Not listed; the list holds six substances, none of them peptides or NNMT inhibitors
Interim Category 1, 2 or 3 (list updated 14 May 2026) Not in any category
Category 2 safety-risks page (updated 22 April 2026) Not listed; no FDA safety-risk finding has ever been published
Advisory committee meeting, 23 and 24 July 2026 Not on the agenda, which covered BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, MOTS-c, DSIP, Semax and Epitalon

The FDA's 503A page also notes that substances nominated on or after 7 January 2025 are no longer being placed into the categories at all. So the accurate description is: no safety finding against it, no determination for it, never in Category 2, never reviewed by the committee. It has simply not been through the FDA's evaluation process. It remains a compounded, prescription-only medication that is not FDA approved. More is in what is 5-Amino-1MQ and are peptides FDA approved.

What "not evaluated" does and does not mean

It does not mean "cleared." It means nobody at the FDA has looked at it for compounding in either direction. A seller that describes 5-Amino-1MQ as "FDA reviewed," "on the FDA list" or "FDA approved" is wrong on all three, and that is worth knowing about the seller as much as the compound.

What "research use only" means legally

The words on a no-prescription vial are doing legal work. A regulation, 21 CFR 201.125, exempts a drug from carrying directions for use when it is sold to people lawfully engaged in research not involving clinical use. A person injecting the contents is the clinical use the regulation excludes. A second regulation, 21 CFR 201.128, says intended use is shown by the seller's objective intent, including advertising. A site that posts injection schedules next to a "not for human consumption" label is describing a human use.

What the label or site says What it means legally What it means for you
"Research use only" The seller claims a laboratory exemption No claim about human safety is made or required
"Not for human consumption" Human use is disclaimed The seller is disclaiming the exact use you intend
"No prescription needed" No prescriber is involved Nobody has looked at your history or your other medications
"99% pure" No legal or compendial meaning; there is no USP monograph to test against Not verified by anyone
A prescription label with your name Compounded for an identified patient under 503A A physician and a pharmacy are accountable for it

For 5-Amino-1MQ the medication list matters more than usual. NNMT also methylates some foreign compounds, so there is a theoretical reason for care with other drugs, and nothing more is known. A no-prescription purchase removes the one step where someone reads your list. The full comparison is in research peptides vs prescription peptides and can you buy peptides without a prescription.

Capsules and injections are different products

Many sources online quote 5-Amino-1MQ as oral capsules. Pepti supplies it as an injection only. A milligram swallowed and a milligram injected are not the same exposure, no human study has compared them, and a capsule dose never converts into syringe units. This page is about the injection, which is a prescription product.

What a lawful prescription looks like

Three things have to be true at once, and you can check each one yourself.

Requirement What it means How to check
A licensed prescriber A physician licensed in your state reviewed your intake Look them up on your state medical board's free license search
A valid prescription Written for you, for a stated medication, strength and directions Your name and directions are printed on the vial label
A licensed pharmacy A state-licensed pharmacy compounds it and is licensed or registered to ship to your state Ask which pharmacy fills it, then check the state board of pharmacy

Telemedicine can satisfy the first requirement where state rules allow it, which is why 5-Amino-1MQ can be prescribed online. The kitchen test: is your name on the vial, with the medication, the strength and the directions? A vial in generic packaging with a milligram figure and a disclaimer was not compounded for you.

What the evidence shows, honestly

A prescription makes 5-Amino-1MQ lawful. It does nothing for the evidence. There are no randomised controlled trials of 5-Amino-1MQ in humans and no published human trials of any design. The research is in diet-induced obese mice, aged mice and cultured fat cells, including a 2024 paper in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism that dosed it once daily for 28 days in mice. The only human data concerns the target enzyme: a 2015 Diabetologia study reported higher NNMT expression in fat tissue from people with type 2 diabetes. That is a rationale for studying it in people, not evidence that it works in them. 5-Amino-1MQ benefits and 5-Amino-1MQ side effects set out what the research has and has not looked at.

How to get 5-Amino-1MQ prescribed through Pepti

  1. Complete the free online assessment, covering your history, current medications and supplements, allergies and what you want help with.
  2. A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours, and may ask follow-up questions or decline if 5-Amino-1MQ is not the right fit. Being declined is refunded.
  3. If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares it to that prescription. Lot test results are published at lab results.
  4. It ships refrigerated with ice packs, as a multi-dose solution ready to use, with sterile syringes, alcohol prep pads and your directions printed on the vial. The typical printed direction is 0.25 mL (25 units) under the skin once daily Monday through Friday, 20 doses per vial.
  5. Refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill, and you can message your care team in between.

Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance. 5-Amino-1MQ also appears in the FUSION blend with BPC-157, MOTS-c and tesamorelin. Pepti prescribes in most US states but not currently in Oklahoma; the assessment confirms availability for your state.
