Is 5-Amino-1MQ Banned in Sports? WADA, the S0 Catch-All and Drug Tests

This page covers what the list does and does not say about 5-Amino-1MQ, how the S0 catch-all works, what that means in practice for tested athletes, how college sport treats unlisted compounds, what a workplace drug test looks for, and where 5-Amino-1MQ stands with the FDA. It is general information, not anti-doping advice. For the compound itself, read what is 5-Amino-1MQ.

5-Amino-1MQ (Injectable)
5-Amino-1MQ$219/mo

5-Amino-1MQ is not named on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, but a tested athlete should not read that as permission. The list's S0 class prohibits, at all times, any pharmacological substance not addressed elsewhere on the list that has no current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not approved for anything. WADA's own explanatory note warns that a substance not specifically named "may still be prohibited." The FUSION blend that contains it is prohibited outright, because it also contains MOTS-c, BPC-157 and tesamorelin.

The short answer

The question The answer What to do
Is 5-Amino-1MQ named on the 2026 WADA List? No. The live pages do not find it named Do not stop there
Could it still be prohibited? Yes. S0 covers unapproved pharmacological substances that are not named, and WADA warns unnamed substances may still be prohibited Check Global DRO and ask your anti-doping body
Is it approved anywhere for human use? The live record describes it as not approved for anything This is the condition S0 is written around
Is the FUSION blend prohibited? Yes. It contains MOTS-c (S4.4.1), BPC-157 (S0) and tesamorelin (S2.2.4) Do not use it if tested
Will it show up on a workplace drug test? No. Workplace panels screen for drugs of abuse only Nothing to do
Does a prescription protect me? No. Anti-doping runs on strict liability Only an advance therapeutic use exemption does

The honest summary: nobody can tell you from a web page that 5-Amino-1MQ is permitted, and the structure of the list leans the other way.

What 5-Amino-1MQ is, and why that matters here

5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide. It is a small synthetic molecule, a methylquinolinium compound, designed to inhibit an enzyme called nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). The full explanation is in is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide. It is prescribed alongside peptides because it is compounded and dispensed the same way.

That matters for anti-doping in one specific way. People sometimes assume that because WADA's peptide rules are about hormones and growth factors, a small molecule falls outside them. It does not work like that. S0 is not about peptides at all: it covers any pharmacological substance, of any structure, that meets its conditions.

How the S0 catch-all works

  • The wording

S0, Non-Approved Substances, prohibits at all times "any pharmacological substance which is not addressed by any of the subsequent sections of the List and with no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use." The 2026 List gives examples, BPC-157 among them, alongside 2,4-dinitrophenol, ryanodine receptor-1-calstabin complex stabilizers and troponin activators. The list describes the class as drugs in development, discontinued drugs, designer drugs and veterinary-only substances.

  • Why it prohibits things it does not name

S0 catches substances by regulatory status rather than by name. A substance need not appear on the list at all; it only needs to lack regulatory approval for human therapeutic use and not be captured by another section. That is the most important clause for anyone looking up an unlisted compound.

  • WADA's own note on unnamed substances

The 2027 List's explanatory note puts it directly: "Many peptides, not approved for human use by regulatory authorities, fulfill the criteria of the World Anti-Doping Code for inclusion on the Prohibited List and fall under the S0 (Non-Approved Substances) class, or other classes (such as S2 or S4). Even if a peptide is not specifically named on the List, utmost caution should be taken as it may still be prohibited." 5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide, but S0's wording covers any pharmacological substance, so the same caution applies.

  • Where 5-Amino-1MQ sits against that test

S0 condition 5-Amino-1MQ, on the live record
A pharmacological substance Yes: a synthetic enzyme inhibitor prescribed as an injection
Not addressed by another section of the List Not named in any section the live pages cite
No current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use Described as not approved for anything; no human trials of any design have been published

Whether a given anti-doping body would classify it under S0 is their determination, not this page's. But every condition the clause sets out is one 5-Amino-1MQ appears to meet, which is why the safe reading for a tested athlete is to treat it as off limits unless their anti-doping organisation says otherwise in writing.

The FUSION blend is not a grey area

FUSION Blend combines BPC-157, MOTS-c, 5-Amino-1MQ and tesamorelin in one 5 mL vial. Whatever the status of 5-Amino-1MQ, three of its four ingredients are prohibited at all times:

Ingredient in FUSION Where it sits on the 2026 List
BPC-157 S0, named explicitly as an example
MOTS-c S4.4.1, as an activator of AMP-activated protein kinase
Tesamorelin S2.2.4, growth hormone releasing factors
5-Amino-1MQ Not named; S0 caution applies

A blend is prohibited by virtue of its components. FUSION is prohibited for a tested athlete, full stop.

Related compounds people compare it with

5-Amino-1MQ is often discussed with MOTS-c and SLU-PP-332 as "metabolic" compounds. Their anti-doping positions are clearer than its own, and they show where the list has been heading:

  • MOTS-c is named under S4.4.1 as an AMPK activator, prohibited at all times, and a validated plasma test for it was published in 2019.
  • SLU-PP-332 falls under WADA's prohibition of exercise mimetics and metabolic modulators, and was added to S4.4 by name for 2027, with detection methods published in 2026.

None of that places 5-Amino-1MQ in S4.4; the live pages do not say it is there. It does show that WADA has been naming metabolic compounds as they appear, and that a compound being unnamed this year says little about next year. The comparison is in MOTS-c vs SLU-PP-332 vs 5-Amino-1MQ.

College sport and workplace tests

The NCAA

The NCAA bans eight drug classes, including hormone and metabolic modulators, and states that "any substance that is chemically/pharmacologically related to one of the above drug classes, even if it is not listed as an example, is also banned." The school and the student-athlete are both accountable. A college athlete should route the question through their athletics health care provider before starting anything, not after.

A standard workplace panel

A standard pre-employment or workplace drug panel does not look for 5-Amino-1MQ. Those panels screen for a short, fixed list of drugs of abuse written into regulation, and nothing in that system looks for a prescribed therapy. More is in do peptides show up on a drug test.

Strict liability and exemptions

Anti-doping runs on strict liability: the athlete is responsible for what is in their sample, whatever the intent, the supplier or the label. A valid prescription does not change that. Only a therapeutic use exemption granted in advance does, and it requires a diagnosed condition, no reasonable permitted alternative, and no performance enhancement beyond a return to normal health. For a compound with no human trials and no approved indication, that is a hard case to make. A telehealth prescription is not a TUE, and no prescriber can grant one.

Where 5-Amino-1MQ stands with the FDA

5-Amino-1MQ is not an FDA-approved drug, is not a component of any FDA-approved drug, and has no USP monograph. It does not appear on the 503A Bulks List, and in the FDA's list updated 14 May 2026 it is in none of the three interim categories. It was not before the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee in July 2026, and the FDA has never published a safety-risk finding about it. It is a compounded, prescription-only medication, and compounded medications are not FDA approved. None of that answers the anti-doping question, which turns on approval for human therapeutic use, not on compounding status.

If you are not a tested athlete

The anti-doping question does not reach a recreational athlete outside any testing pool. What remains is the evidence: mice and cultured cells, with no human trials of any design, set out in 5-Amino-1MQ benefits and 5-Amino-1MQ side effects.

At Pepti, 5-Amino-1MQ is $219 a month, all-in, covering medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. It is a 5 mL multi-dose vial at 1 mg/mL (5 mg per vial). The typical printed direction is 0.25 mL (25 units on a U-100 syringe) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday, which is 0.25 mg per dose and 20 doses, about four weeks, so refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill. Your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake, and they are printed on the vial.
