5-Amino-1MQ for Women: What the Research Has Looked At, and What to Check First

This page covers what 5-Amino-1MQ is, what research has and has not looked at, what changes for women, how it sits alongside contraception, other medications and pregnancy plans, and how Pepti supplies it. For the evidence claim by claim, see 5-Amino-1MQ benefits; for the product reference, what is 5-Amino-1MQ. The men's version of this page is 5-Amino-1MQ for men.

5-Amino-1MQ (Injectable)
5-Amino-1MQ$219/mo

No study has tested 5-Amino-1MQ in women, or in any person: its research is in cultured fat cells and mice, where it limited weight and fat gain in diet-induced obese animals and supported grip strength in aged mice. It is a small molecule that blocks the enzyme NNMT, not a hormone and not a peptide, and nothing in its research describes it acting on estrogen, progesterone or the cycle. For a woman whose shape has changed through her forties or fifties, the findable causes, thyroid disease, poor glucose control and the menopause transition itself, come first, and the medications with human evidence for weight are different ones. 5-Amino-1MQ is not used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and its effect on fertility has not been studied. At Pepti it is a compounded prescription injection, and it is not FDA approved.

5-Amino-1MQ for Women

The short answer

Question What the live research shows Strength of evidence
Has 5-Amino-1MQ been studied in women? No; there are no human studies of any design None
Does it reduce fat? Limited weight and fat-mass gain in diet-induced obese mice (2018, 2024) Preclinical only
Does it help muscle with age? Greater grip strength in aged mice, more with exercise (2024); muscle repair after injury in aged mice (2019) Preclinical only
Is its target relevant to people? NNMT roughly twofold higher in fat tissue in type 2 diabetes (Diabetologia, 2015, 199 people) About the enzyme, not the compound
Does it act on hormones or the cycle? Not described; it is not a hormone and does not act on a hormone receptor No mechanism, no data
Does it suppress appetite? No; the 2018 mice ate the same amount Mouse data
Pregnancy, breastfeeding Not used; safety data is absent Clear exclusion
Fertility Not studied Unknown

The honest summary: a consistent mouse and cell story, one human observation about the enzyme it targets, and nothing about women specifically.

What 5-Amino-1MQ is, in one paragraph

5-Amino-1MQ is 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, a small synthetic molecule built on a quinolinium ring, with no amino acids in it, so it is not a peptide; is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide explains why. It came from a medicinal chemistry programme at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. It blocks nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that uses up nicotinamide, a precursor of NAD+, and SAM, the cell's main methyl donor. Blocking it is proposed to keep both in the cell and shift fat cells toward using energy. It is not a hormone, not a growth hormone secretagogue, not a GLP-1 medication, not a stimulant, and it does not contain NAD+.

What research has looked at

  • Fat gain in mice

The 2018 Biochemical Pharmacology study treated diet-induced obese mice with an NNMT inhibitor and reported reduced body weight, reduced white fat mass, smaller fat cells and lower total cholesterol, with total food intake unchanged. The 2024 paper in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism dosed the compound once daily for 28 days and reported dose-dependent limiting of weight and fat-mass gain, better glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, and less fatty liver. A 2022 Scientific Reports study found the inhibitor plus a switch to a low-fat diet normalized weight faster than the diet switch alone.

What it does not show. These are mouse findings. The live pages do not report the sex of the animals, and no result was presented as being about females, or about the hormonal changes of menopause. Mouse body-composition findings frequently do not translate to people, and this compound has not been tested for translation.

  • Aged muscle and strength

A 2019 paper in Biochemical Pharmacology described NNMT as overexpressed in aged skeletal muscle. In 24-month-old mice with an acute muscle injury, treatment was reported to raise muscle stem cell activity and support larger regenerated fibres. A 2024 Scientific Reports study treated mice from 22 to 24 months of age with the inhibitor, intensive exercise, or both, and reported around 40 percent greater grip strength in treated sedentary mice than in sedentary controls, with an additive effect alongside exercise.

What it does not show. The mice were chosen because they recapitulate features of human sarcopenia, age-related muscle loss. That is a rationale for studying it in older people. It is not a study in people, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not a treatment for muscle loss.

  • The one human finding, about the enzyme

A 2015 study in Diabetologia measured NNMT in fat tissue from 199 people having abdominal surgery and reported it roughly twofold higher in type 2 diabetes, with levels tracking insulin resistance. Exercise and bariatric surgery were associated with lower NNMT. Nobody in that study was given 5-Amino-1MQ, and the live pages do not report a separate result for women.

What changes for women

  • Body composition through the menopause years

Through the transition, average weight gain is modest, but fat shifts toward the abdomen, lean mass declines, resting energy expenditure falls and insulin sensitivity worsens. That is why the two lines of mouse research, fat gain and aged muscle, are the ones women hear about. Neither was designed around menopause, neither reported results in female animals, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not hormone therapy and does not act on the estrogen changes driving the shift. Nothing in this category protects bone density either: that is a DEXA scan, calcium, vitamin D, resistance training and a medical conversation. Any weight-loss approach at this stage has to protect muscle and bone rather than just remove weight. See peptides for menopause.

  • Findable causes first

An underactive thyroid produces fatigue, weight change, cold intolerance and low mood, and it is far more common in women because autoimmune thyroiditis is heavily skewed toward women. Iron deficiency, common with menstrual blood loss, produces fatigue that is easy to mistake for a metabolic problem. Poor glucose control is the third. None of these is fixed by a vial, and each is inexpensive to find. The wider picture is in peptides for women.

  • Where the human evidence for weight actually is

If the goal is The option with human evidence What the evidence is
Meaningful weight loss Semaglutide or tirzepatide Large randomized trials in obesity for the approved versions, with women the majority of participants in the semaglutide trials
Visceral fat specifically Tesamorelin Randomized trials measuring visceral fat by CT, in a specific population; not used in pregnancy
A metabolic adjunct alongside training 5-Amino-1MQ Mouse and cell studies only

5-Amino-1MQ is not described as suppressing appetite; the 2018 mice ate the same amount. That difference in mechanism is why some physicians prescribe it alongside a GLP-1 rather than instead of one, though no human study has tested that combination. See can you take 5-Amino-1MQ with tirzepatide, 5-Amino-1MQ vs semaglutide and 5-Amino-1MQ vs tirzepatide.

  • Training

Both the diet-switch study and the aged-muscle exercise study paired the inhibitor with a lifestyle change and reported the combination doing more than either alone. Prescribers describe 5-Amino-1MQ the same way: as an adjunct to diet and training, not a replacement for them. Resistance training belongs in the plan in the menopause years regardless of what is prescribed.

  • Contraception and other medications

5-Amino-1MQ is not a hormone and is not described as affecting the cycle or hormonal contraception. There is, however, no established interaction list for it at all, and NNMT also methylates foreign compounds, which is a theoretical reason for care with other medications. List your contraception, any hormone therapy, thyroid medication and everything else you take on your intake, and report any cycle change.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

5-Amino-1MQ is not used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding; safety data is absent. If you become pregnant on treatment, stop and contact your physician the same day. Can you take peptides while pregnant covers why.

  • Trying to conceive

Fertility has not been studied for 5-Amino-1MQ, so nobody can say the effect either way. If conception is a near-term goal, tell your physician before starting, because that changes what is prescribed and when. See do peptides affect fertility.

  • Sport

The live pages do not name 5-Amino-1MQ on the WADA Prohibited List. Tested athletes should check the current list for their sport before starting anything. The FUSION Blend contains MOTS-c, which is prohibited at all times. See is 5-Amino-1MQ banned in sports.

What the evidence does not establish

  • That 5-Amino-1MQ does anything in women, or in any person. There are no human trials of any design.
  • Any effect on menopause body-composition changes, bone or hormone levels.
  • An effect size or a timeline. The 28-day mouse study is the closest thing to a duration reference, and a mouse timeline is not a human one.
  • That it raises NAD+ in people. That was measured in cultured fat cells only.
  • Long-term safety in humans, safety in pregnancy, or an interaction profile.
  • Efficacy for any condition as an FDA-approved treatment. It is not approved for anything.

Side effects and considerations

What is reported or relevant Where it comes from What to do
Injection-site redness, mild soreness, occasional bruising What prescribers report Rotate sites between abdomen and thigh
No observable adverse effects at the doses used The 2018 mouse work, not a toxicology study Not a human safety finding
Other medications, including contraception and hormone therapy NNMT also methylates foreign compounds; no interaction list List everything on your intake
Glucose-lowering medication The 2024 mouse glucose findings List it at intake
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy No safety data Not used; tell your physician
A reaction that is severe, spreading, or involves difficulty breathing Rare Emergency care first (call 911), then tell your physician

Message your care team about anything that does not settle. Nothing in the live research suggests the side-effect profile differs between women and men. The full list is in 5-Amino-1MQ side effects.

Where 5-Amino-1MQ stands with the FDA

5-Amino-1MQ is not an FDA-approved drug or a component of one, and has no USP monograph. It does not appear on the 503A bulks list, or in Category 1, 2 or 3 of the FDA's nominated-substances list as updated 14 May 2026. The FDA has never published a safety-risk finding about it, and it was not among the substances the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee reviewed in July 2026. It has simply not been through the FDA's evaluation process. Compounded medications are not FDA approved.

How Pepti supplies 5-Amino-1MQ

Product What is in it Typical directions Price
5-Amino-1MQ 5 mL multi-dose vial, 1 mg/mL (5 mg) 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday $219/mo
FUSION Blend 10 mg BPC-157, 10 mg MOTS-c, 10 mg 5-Amino-1MQ, 15 mg tesamorelin in 5 mL 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday $279/mo

At 1 mg/mL, the printed 0.25 mL dose is 0.25 mg of 5-Amino-1MQ, and a vial holds 20 doses, about four weeks, so refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill. In FUSION, at 2 mg/mL of 5-Amino-1MQ, the same 0.25 mL holds 0.5 mg alongside the other three ingredients, including tesamorelin, which brings growth-hormone-axis cautions of its own. That is arithmetic, not advice: your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake, and they are printed on the vial. More is in 5-Amino-1MQ dosage, and the comparison with a neighbouring option is in AOD-9604 vs 5-Amino-1MQ.

Every price is all-in, covering medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance. Pepti supplies 5-Amino-1MQ as an injection only. Vials arrive ready to use, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, shipped refrigerated with ice packs. Lot test results are at /quality/lab-results.
