Selank vs DSIP: Daytime Calm vs Night-Time Sleep, Evidence, FDA Status, Dosing and Cost
This page explains each on its own terms, puts them side by side, covers what the research does and does not show, where each stands with the FDA, how each is dosed, what each costs at Pepti, and who tends to suit which.

Selank and DSIP are both prescribed around stress and rest, but they are aimed at different times of day: Selank is a daytime peptide described around GABA signalling and anxiety, while DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is taken at bedtime and described around sleep structure and the stress axis. Both have small, older human trials with real limits: Selank in Russian anxiety studies compared with benzodiazepines, DSIP in intravenous insomnia studies from 1981 to 1992 that independent groups judged too weak to matter. Where anxiety drives the poor sleep, Selank is often the start; where sleep is the main complaint, DSIP is the more direct conversation; and the SERENITY blend contains both. Neither compounded product is FDA approved.

Selank vs DSIP
Selank on its own terms
What it is
Selank is a heptapeptide, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. The first four amino acids are tuftsin, a natural fragment of the immunoglobulin G antibody molecule, and the last three were added to slow its breakdown. It was developed in Moscow at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the Zakusov Institute of Pharmacology, and is registered in Russia as a nasal prescription medicine. It is not a benzodiazepine and not a stimulant. The full reference is at what is Selank.
How Selank is described to work
- GABA-A receptors. A 2018 cell-membrane study reported Selank changed how GABA bound to its receptor, in the manner of a positive allosteric modulator.
- Slowing enkephalin breakdown. A 2001 paper reported Selank inhibited the enzymes that degrade leu-enkephalin, one of the body's calming opioid peptides, in human plasma. The 2008 clinical trial measured the same marker rising in patients.
- BDNF and gene expression. Rat work describes changes in hippocampal BDNF and in GABA-related gene activity.
What human data exists for Selank
Small Russian trials, compared with benzodiazepines rather than placebo and not described as randomized or blinded. In 2008, 62 patients with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia had a similar anxiolytic response to Selank and medazepam. In 2014, 60 patients with anxiety-phobic and somatoform disorders had a pronounced anxiolytic effect lasting about a week after the last dose. In 2015, adding Selank to phenazepam in 70 patients reduced the benzodiazepine's side effects, including sedation and longer sleep. All used the nasal route. More is in Selank benefits.
Selank vs DSIP
DSIP on its own terms
What it is
DSIP is a nine-amino-acid peptide, Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu. In the 1960s Marcel Monnier's group in Basel reported that blood from the brain of a sleeping rabbit could induce sleep-like brain waves in a second rabbit; the factor was sequenced and synthesized by 1977. The World Health Organization's name for it is emideltide, which is what the FDA uses. It is not a sedative, not related to melatonin and not a growth hormone secretagogue. The full reference is at what is DSIP.
How DSIP is described to work
- Deep-sleep brain waves. Animal studies from 1977 onward reported more delta-wave and spindle activity, the markers of deep non-REM sleep, though not consistently.
- The body's own opioid system. In rats the opioid blocker naloxone stopped DSIP prolonging sleep. Cell work found DSIP does not bind opioid receptors itself but triggers enkephalin release from neurons.
- The stress axis. Rat studies in 1985 and 2001 reported DSIP reducing stress-hormone release and stress-related activation in the hypothalamus.
- A short life. DSIP has a half-life of about eight minutes in human plasma, so any effect is a signalling event, not a level held through the night.
Nearly fifty years on, no DSIP gene or receptor has been identified, and a 2006 review called the sleep-factor hypothesis "extremely poorly documented and still weak."
What human data exists for DSIP
Small, older and split. Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled intravenous studies in chronic insomniacs began with a 1981 Lancet report in six people describing longer, less interrupted sleep without daytime sedation. Two independent groups disagreed: a 1987 crossover found no significant difference from placebo, and a 1992 study of sixteen insomniacs judged the effects weak. The FDA counted roughly 209 people across all the work, all treated intravenously, none after 1992. There are no randomized trials of subcutaneous DSIP. More is in DSIP benefits.

Day versus night, and a shared thread
The simplest way to separate them is timing. Selank is aimed at the daytime experience of anxiety; DSIP at the night. What is interesting is that both are described as working partly through the body's own enkephalins: Selank by slowing their breakdown, DSIP by triggering their release. That is animal and laboratory work, but it helps explain why prescribers often see them as two halves of one stress-and-sleep picture rather than rivals.
Which problem comes first
The honest question to ask yourself is whether you sleep badly because your mind will not settle, or whether sleep itself is the problem. Selank's own page notes that where poor sleep is downstream of a racing mind, some physicians start with Selank; where sleep is the primary complaint, DSIP is the more direct conversation. Selank is not a sleeping aid: in the 2015 trial, longer sleep was one of the benzodiazepine side effects that adding Selank reduced.
Selank vs DSIP
The SERENITY blend
SERENITY puts both in one vial with two growth-hormone-axis peptides:
| SERENITY Blend | |
|---|---|
| Vial | 5 mL: DSIP 1 mg/mL + Selank 1 mg/mL + CJC-1295 1.2 mg/mL + ipamorelin 2.4 mg/mL |
| Per vial | 5 mg DSIP / 5 mg Selank / 6 mg CJC-1295 / 12 mg ipamorelin |
| Typical printed directions | Inject 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously Monday through Friday nights at bedtime |
| Per dose (math only) | 0.25 mg DSIP, 0.25 mg Selank, 0.3 mg CJC-1295, 0.6 mg ipamorelin |
| Price | $279 a month |
Note the timing: in SERENITY the Selank is taken at bedtime with the DSIP, not during the day. The proportions are fixed, and no study has tested this combination. It suits people describing stress and sleep together, and whose physician thinks the growth-hormone components are worth including.
Selank vs DSIP
Who suits which
Selank
Selank suits people whose main problem is daytime anxiety, stress reactivity or rumination, with poor sleep as a knock-on effect, if any. It is not sedating in the trials, and it combines with Semax for people who also want focus. See Selank vs Semax.
DSIP
DSIP suits people whose main complaint is sleep, particularly broken or light sleep on top of a stress response. Prescribers generally treat the first vial as an assessment window, ideally kept against a sleep diary. Long-standing chronic insomnia is the population where the human studies split, so be honest with your physician about which you have.
Both, separately or in SERENITY
Some people take Selank in the day and DSIP at night; others use SERENITY, which delivers both at bedtime. No study has tested either arrangement. If you want both, say so on the intake, and your directions will be printed on each vial.
Selank vs DSIP
When neither is the right first step
| Situation | What makes more sense |
|---|---|
| You have not tried CBT-I | Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia is the first-line recommendation of major sleep guidelines, with large human trials |
| Snoring, gasping or daytime sleepiness | A sleep apnea evaluation; neither peptide treats a breathing-related sleep problem |
| Your sleep timing is off rather than its depth | Epithalon, described around the pineal gland and circadian rhythm |
| A diagnosed anxiety, panic or mood disorder under treatment | That treatment comes first; Selank is at most an adjunct |
| You take a prescription sleeping pill | Do not stop it without your prescriber; DSIP is not a substitute |
Selank vs DSIP
Where each stands with the FDA
Both were placed in Category 2 in 2023 and both are out of it, but their paths since then differ. As of the FDA pages checked in September 2026:
| Selank | DSIP (emideltide) | |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Category 2 (29 September 2023), with the generic immunogenicity concern applied to that batch | Category 2 |
| Removal | 27 September 2024, after the nominator said it had meant to nominate a different substance; now "nominated but withdrawn" | 15 April 2026, effective 22 April 2026; the FDA noted no safety-related information for the proposed route |
| Advisory committee | Never reviewed | 24 July 2026: voted 6 in favor, 7 against, 1 abstention, so did not recommend adding it to the 503A Bulks List; uses reviewed were opioid withdrawal, chronic insomnia and narcolepsy |
| Final FDA determination | No active nomination | Pending; the vote is advisory |
Neither is banned, and both remain legal to prescribe and dispense as compounded medications. DSIP was the only one of the seven peptides reviewed that week not to receive a favorable vote. Compounded medications are not FDA approved, and neither is an FDA-approved drug. See are peptides FDA approved.
Selank vs DSIP
Dosing, side by side
Both are injected under the skin into the abdomen or thigh, rotating sites, five days a week with weekends off. Both vials are multi-dose solutions shipped ready to use, refrigerated with ice packs, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads.
| Selank | DSIP | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical printed directions | Inject 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday | Inject 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously Monday through Friday nights at bedtime |
| Concentration | 2 mg/mL | 1 mg/mL |
| Per dose (math only) | 0.25 mL x 2 mg/mL = 0.5 mg | 0.25 mL x 1 mg/mL = 0.25 mg |
| Doses per vial | 20 (5 mL divided by 0.25 mL) | 20 (5 mL divided by 0.25 mL) |
| How long a vial lasts | 20 doses at five a week, about 4 weeks | 20 doses at five nights a week, about 4 weeks |
| Storage notes | Keep out of light; do not freeze or shake | Do not freeze |
The draw is the same 25 units, but the strengths differ, so Selank delivers twice the milligrams per dose. On a U-100 insulin syringe, 1 unit is 0.01 mL, and the milligram figures are arithmetic for reading a label, not a way to set a dose. Your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake, and your directions are printed on the vial. Neither weekday schedule comes from the trials, which used nasal Selank and intravenous DSIP. Refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill. More is in Selank dosage and DSIP dosage.
Selank vs DSIP
Side effects
Selank. The Russian trials, using a formal side-effect scale, reported no sedation, memory impairment, dependence or withdrawal. With the injection, mostly injection-site redness, mild soreness or bruising. Some people describe early fatigue or a flat feeling, and a few feel wired; both usually settle. It has not been studied with SSRIs, SNRIs, stimulants or antipsychotics. More is in Selank side effects.
DSIP. The small intravenous insomnia studies reported it as well tolerated. A withdrawal series reported transient headache, nausea and vertigo in a handful of patients. Prescribers today mostly report injection-site reactions, with occasional early headache or vivid dreams. Tell your physician about any opioid, benzodiazepine, sedative or regular alcohol use, because its described mechanism runs through the body's opioid system, and about every medication, because laboratory work reports DSIP being broken down by an enzyme some blood-pressure medicines inhibit. More is in DSIP side effects.
For both, message your care team about anything unexpected, and about any marked change in mood. Facial or throat swelling, a widespread rash or difficulty breathing is an emergency: call 911 first, then tell your physician.
Selank vs DSIP
Who should not take either, or should discuss it first
| Situation | Why |
|---|---|
| Pregnancy or breastfeeding | Not used for either; safety data is absent |
| Opioid, benzodiazepine, sedative or regular alcohol use | Especially for DSIP, because of its described opioid-system mechanism |
| Existing psychiatric treatment | Especially for Selank; combinations with most psychiatric medicines have not been studied |
| Blood-pressure medication | Mention it for DSIP, because of the enzyme finding |
| Tested athletes | Check your sport's current prohibited list before starting either |
Selank vs DSIP
What the evidence shows, honestly
Both have more human data than many compounded peptides, and both have clear limits. Selank's anxiety trials are small, Russian, nasal, compared with benzodiazepines rather than placebo, and unreplicated elsewhere. DSIP's insomnia trials are small, decades old and intravenous, and the independent ones concluded the effect was too weak to be clinically meaningful; the controlled studies that measured slow-wave sleep did not find it increased. Neither has a trial of the injection. Any provider calling either a reliable fix for anxiety or insomnia is overstating it.

Where to get Selank or DSIP prescribed
Neither can be bought legitimately without a prescription. Sites selling them "for research use only" are not accountable for what is in the vial: identity, purity, sterility and concentration are untested. The prescription route:
- Complete a free online intake covering your history, medications and what you want help with.
- A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
- If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares it to that prescription. Lot test results are published at /quality/lab-results.
- It ships refrigerated with ice packs and your directions printed on the vial.
- Your physician stays reachable for questions and dose changes.
Pepti prescribes both in every state except Oklahoma, plus DC Step by step: how to get Selank prescribed online and how to get DSIP prescribed online. Related: peptides for sleep and peptides for anxiety and mood.

Common questions
Selank vs DSIP, answered.
DSIP is the one aimed at sleep and taken at bedtime, though its human trials were small and mixed. Selank is aimed at daytime anxiety; it may help when a racing mind is what keeps you awake, but it is not a sleep aid. No study has compared them.
Selank. Its Russian trials measured anxiety directly and reported effects similar to benzodiazepines without sedation. DSIP is described around the stress axis in rat studies, but its human studies were about sleep.
Selank is a tuftsin-based peptide described as modulating GABA and slowing enkephalin breakdown, taken in the daytime for anxiety. DSIP is a nine-amino-acid sleep peptide described around deep-sleep brain waves and enkephalin release, taken at bedtime.
They are routinely combined: both are in the SERENITY Blend, taken at bedtime. Some people are prescribed Selank by day and DSIP at night instead. No study has tested either arrangement, so follow the directions printed on each vial.
Neither is described as sedating. The Selank trials reported no sedation, and the DSIP volunteer study found no sleepiness or impaired performance two hours after dosing. A few people describe early fatigue on Selank, which usually settles.
Tell your physician about any sleeping pill, benzodiazepine, opioid or regular alcohol use before starting DSIP. Do not stop a prescription hypnotic without your prescriber. DSIP is not a substitute for one.
Both are mostly injection-site reactions. Selank sometimes causes early flatness or a wired feeling; DSIP sometimes causes early headache or vivid dreams. Neither has an established interaction list.
No trial gives a timeline for either by injection. The Russian Selank trials measured anxiety over a few weeks of nasal dosing. The DSIP trials gave intravenous infusions over single nights or up to seven consecutive nights, and the longest human course on record is fifteen days.
At Pepti, Selank is $229 a month, DSIP is $249 a month and the SERENITY Blend is $279 a month, all-in, including medication, physician review, refill management and shipping.
No. It was removed from Category 2 in April 2026. In July 2026 the advisory committee voted 6 to 7, with one abstention, not to recommend adding it to the 503A Bulks List. That vote is advisory, the FDA has not issued a final determination, and DSIP remains legal to prescribe.
