Do You Need a Prescription for PT-141 + Oxytocin? Is It Legal to Buy Online?
This page answers the legal and prescription question only. For what the combination is and what the research shows, see what is PT-141 + Oxytocin; for the price breakdown, see what PT-141 + Oxytocin costs. This is general information, not legal advice.

Treatments mentioned
Yes. In the United States, PT-141 + Oxytocin for injection is a prescription medication: a physician licensed in your state has to prescribe it, and a licensed pharmacy has to compound it for you by name. It is legal to buy online through a telehealth provider that issues that prescription and has a licensed pharmacy fill it. Both ingredients, bremelanotide (PT-141) and oxytocin, are the active ingredients of FDA-approved drugs, which is why a 503A pharmacy may compound them; but the compounded two-ingredient vial is a different product that the FDA has not reviewed, and compounded medications are not FDA approved. Vials sold with no prescription are sold as "research use only," which disclaims human use.

Do You Need a Prescription for PT-141 + Oxytocin? Is It Legal to Buy Online?
The short answer
| Question | Answer, as of September 2026 |
|---|---|
| Do you need a prescription for PT-141 + Oxytocin to inject? | Yes. It is dispensed lawfully only on a prescription |
| Is it legal to buy online? | Yes, through a telehealth provider that prescribes it and has a licensed pharmacy compound it |
| Is the compounded vial FDA approved? | No. Compounded medications are not FDA approved, and this two-ingredient formulation has never been reviewed |
| Are the ingredients approved drugs? | Yes. Bremelanotide was approved in June 2019 and oxytocin injection in November 1980, each as its own finished product for specific uses |
| Were either affected by the 2026 peptide-list changes? | No. Neither was ever nominated to the FDA's 503A bulks list or placed in any category |
| Is prescribing it to men legal? | Yes, as off-label use of an approved active; the approved bremelanotide product is indicated only for premenopausal women |
| Is it allowed in tested sport? | Neither ingredient is named on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List; that is not the same as cleared |
At Pepti, PT-141 + Oxytocin is $259 a month all-in: a 5 mL multi-dose vial holding 10 mg PT-141 and 5 mg oxytocin, physician review, refill management and refrigerated shipping, with no membership fee.

Why PT-141 + Oxytocin needs a prescription
Both ingredients are prescription drugs already
Section 503(b) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act creates prescription-only status for a drug that is not safe to use except under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, and dispensing such a drug without a prescription is treated as misbranding. Here the question barely arises: both active ingredients are prescription-only as approved products. Bremelanotide injection carries a label that caps dosing and contraindicates it in uncontrolled hypertension and known cardiovascular disease. Oxytocin injection is a hospital drug for labour and postpartum bleeding. A vial combining the two is not less of a prescription drug than either alone.
How a pharmacy may compound it at all
Section 503A of the same Act exempts a drug compounded by a licensed pharmacist for an identified individual patient, on a valid prescription, from the approval requirement. A 503A pharmacy may compound from a bulk substance if it has a USP or NF monograph, is a component of an FDA-approved drug product, or appears on the FDA's 503A bulks list. Bremelanotide and oxytocin qualify by the second route. The prescription is the legal event that makes the sale possible, and it is the reason your name is on the label. The wider background is in are peptides legal in the US.
Why the 2026 changes did not touch it
Most compounded peptides moved in 2026: the FDA removed twelve from Category 2 on 15 April 2026, and the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee reviewed several on 23 and 24 July 2026. PT-141 + Oxytocin sits outside all of that. Neither bremelanotide nor oxytocin has ever been nominated to, or placed in any category of, the FDA's 503A bulk drug substances list, and neither was discussed at the July meeting. That is checked against the FDA's category list current at 14 May 2026 and the July meeting page. Their legal footing is the approved products, not the bulks list.

The two approved products, and why the vial is neither
| Bremelanotide (PT-141) | Oxytocin | |
|---|---|---|
| Approved | 21 June 2019, NDA 210557 | 19 November 1980, NDA 018261 |
| Approved form | 1.75 mg/0.3 mL single-dose autoinjector | 10 USP units/mL for intravenous infusion or intramuscular injection |
| Approved use | Premenopausal women with acquired, generalised hypoactive sexual desire disorder | Induction or improvement of labour where medically indicated, and control of postpartum bleeding |
| Label limits | No more than once in 24 hours and no more than eight times a month | Sexual function and subcutaneous use appear nowhere on the label |
| In the Pepti vial | 10 mg per 5 mL (2 mg/mL) | 5 mg per 5 mL (1 mg/mL) |
A compounded PT-141 + Oxytocin vial is a different formulation: two actives together, at a different concentration, in a multi-dose vial, prepared by a licensed pharmacy to an individual prescription. The FDA has not reviewed that formulation. Prescribed to men, or to women outside the approved bremelanotide indication, it is off-label use of approved actives, which is lawful and common across medicine but should be understood as such. See are peptides FDA approved.
What off-label means for the evidence
Off-label is a legal status, not a verdict on the evidence, and here the two halves are very different. Bremelanotide has two positive phase 3 randomised controlled trials, together called RECONNECT, in 1,267 premenopausal women, plus a 52-week extension; in men it has early-phase studies from 2004 and no outcome trial. Oxytocin's human evidence for sexual function is small and intranasal, and the better-controlled studies found no difference from placebo. The combination has no trials of any kind. What "research use only" means legally
The words on a no-prescription vial are doing legal work. A regulation, 21 CFR 201.125, exempts a drug from carrying adequate directions for use when it is shipped to people lawfully engaged in research not involving clinical use. A person injecting the contents before intimacy is exactly the clinical use the exemption excludes. A second regulation, 21 CFR 201.128, says a product's intended use is shown by the seller's objective intent, including advertising, so a site that markets a "libido stack" while its label says "not for human consumption" is describing a human use whatever the label says.
| What the label or site says | What it means legally | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| "Research use only" | The seller is claiming a laboratory exemption | No claim about human safety is made or required |
| "Not for human consumption" | Human use is disclaimed | The seller is disclaiming the exact use you intend |
| "No prescription needed" | No prescriber is involved | Nobody has checked your blood pressure history or medications |
| "99% pure" | No legal meaning on its own | Says nothing about sterility, endotoxin or the actual amount of each ingredient |
| A prescription label with your name | Compounded for an identified patient under 503A | A physician and a pharmacy are accountable for it |
The research-vial problem is sharper for this product than for most. Bremelanotide's main safety limits, the once-in-24-hours rule and the eight-a-month ceiling, exist because each dose transiently raises blood pressure and more frequent dosing raises the risk of skin darkening. A research vial comes with no directions and no ceiling. More is in research peptides vs prescription peptides and can you buy peptides without a prescription.

What a lawful prescription looks like
| Requirement | What it means | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| A licensed prescriber | A physician licensed in your state reviewed your intake | Look the physician up on your state medical board's public license search |
| A licensed pharmacy | A state-licensed 503A pharmacy compounded the vial | The pharmacy is named on your label; your state board of pharmacy has a license lookup |
| A prescription in your name | Compounded for you, not stock sold to anyone | Your name, the drug, the strength, your directions and a beyond-use date are on the vial |
At Pepti that looks like this: a physician licensed in your state reviews your intake, usually within 24 hours; a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares the vial; and it ships refrigerated with ice packs, sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, as a multi-dose solution ready to use with directions printed on the vial. The typical printed direction is:
| On the label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Inject 0.10 mL (10 units) | 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe |
| Subcutaneously | Into the fat layer, usually abdomen or thigh |
| 2 to 4 hours prior to sexual activity | Per occasion, not a daily schedule |
| No more than 8 doses per month | A safety ceiling carried over from the approved bremelanotide label, not a target |
| Per 0.10 mL at 2 mg/mL + 1 mg/mL (math only) | 0.2 mg PT-141 and 0.1 mg oxytocin |
| 5 mL vial | 50 doses at 0.10 mL; how long it lasts depends on use, and the beyond-use date on the label governs |
Your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake. Refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill; if you use it rarely, ask your care team about timing. Lot test results are published at lab results.

Why the intake matters for this vial
| What the intake asks | Why, for PT-141 + Oxytocin |
|---|---|
| Blood pressure and cardiovascular history | Bremelanotide is contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension and known cardiovascular disease; each dose transiently raises blood pressure |
| Every medication, especially oral naltrexone | Bremelanotide slows gastric emptying and can reduce absorption of oral medicines; the label advises against combining it with oral naltrexone |
| Pregnancy | An absolute exclusion; uterine contraction is oxytocin's primary peripheral action |
| How nausea has affected you before | Nausea is the most common effect with bremelanotide, worst with the first dose |
| What you are hoping to change | Low desire with a hormonal cause, or an erection problem with desire intact, may point to a different conversation |
Nausea, flushing, headache, injection-site reactions and focal skin darkening are the effects described for bremelanotide; the full list is in PT-141 side effects. Message your care team about any reaction that worries you, and for chest pain, a marked rise in blood pressure, difficulty breathing or any severe reaction, call 911. Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account.

Common questions
Do You Need a Prescription for PT-141 + Oxytocin? Is It Legal to Buy Online?, answered.
Yes, for injection. It is a compounded prescription medication in the US, prescribed by a physician licensed in your state and prepared by a licensed pharmacy for you by name.
Yes, through a telehealth provider that issues a valid prescription and has a licensed pharmacy compound and ship it. Pepti prescribes PT-141 + Oxytocin in every state except Oklahoma, plus DC.
Bremelanotide, the active ingredient, is approved as a finished product for premenopausal women with acquired, generalised hypoactive sexual desire disorder, since June 2019. A compounded PT-141 vial is not that product and is not FDA approved. Single-ingredient PT-141 is covered in where to buy PT-141 online.
Yes. Oxytocin injection has been an approved prescription drug since 1980 for obstetric use. Single-ingredient oxytocin is also available; see what is oxytocin.
No. Neither bremelanotide nor oxytocin was ever nominated to the 503A bulks list, placed in Category 2, removed from it in April 2026 or discussed at the July 2026 advisory committee meeting.
Yes. The approved bremelanotide product is indicated only for premenopausal women, so prescribing to men is off-label use of an approved active, which is lawful. The male evidence is early-phase studies from 2004, with no outcome trial.
Only as a research-use-only chemical that the seller labels as not for human use, with no directions and no dosing ceiling. That is a different product in every way that matters for an injection.
No. The eight-a-month ceiling is a safety limit from the approved bremelanotide label: more frequent dosing raises the risk of focal skin darkening and lengthens the time each month that blood pressure is raised.
Neither ingredient is named on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List. Not being named is not the same as being cleared, so check your sport's current rules. See is PT-141 banned in sports.
At Pepti, $259 a month, covering medication, physician review, refill management and refrigerated shipping. There is no membership fee, and Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance.
