Dihexa for Women: What the Research Has Looked At, and What to Check First
This page covers what Dihexa is, what research has and has not looked at, the considerations that matter for women, how it sits alongside perimenopause, and how Pepti supplies it. For the evidence benefit by benefit, see Dihexa benefits; for the product reference, what is Dihexa. The men's version is Dihexa for men.

Treatments mentioned
No study has looked at Dihexa in women, because no study has looked at Dihexa in people at all: the FDA states it has not identified any human exposure data for dihexa acetate by any route. Everything known about it comes from rodent and cell work, some of it from the developing lab and two papers of it since retracted. For women, the practical questions are what else explains poor recall or focus (iron deficiency, an underactive thyroid, low B12, poor sleep and the menopausal transition come first), whether there is a personal or strong family history of breast, ovarian or other cancer, given its proposed growth-pathway mechanism, and pregnancy, where it is not used. Dihexa is not a hormone and does not act on estrogen or progesterone. Compounded Dihexa is a prescription injection and is not FDA approved.

Dihexa for Women
The short answer
| Question | What the live research shows | Strength of evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Has Dihexa been studied in women? | No. No human data in either sex | None |
| Has it been studied in people at all? | No randomised trials, no open-label trials, no case series; the FDA has identified no human exposure data | None |
| What does the animal work show? | Better spatial-memory performance in scopolamine-impaired and aged rats (2013) and in a mouse model of Alzheimer's-type pathology (Brain Sciences, 2021) | Animal only, not reported by sex |
| Does it act on estrogen or the cycle? | It is not a hormone and is not described as acting on the reproductive axis | No study either way |
| Does it help menopause brain fog? | Not studied | None |
| Pregnancy or breastfeeding | Not used; safety data is absent | Clear exclusion |
| Is cancer history relevant? | Yes. Its proposed mechanism runs through HGF/c-Met, a growth pathway over-active in many cancers | Theoretical, unresolved |
The honest summary: nothing in women, nothing in men, and a short animal literature with a retraction history.
Dihexa for Women
What Dihexa is, in one paragraph
Dihexa is a very small peptide derivative built from a fragment of angiotensin IV, itself a breakdown product of angiotensin II, the hormone most people know from blood-pressure medicine. A group at Washington State University designed it to survive in the body and cross into the brain, after reporting that angiotensin IV and its relatives improved memory-task performance in rats. Its full chemical name is N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide; it is also written PNB-0408, and pharmacies label it dihexa acetate. It is not a steroid, a stimulant or a hormone in the usual sense, and it does not act on dopamine or noradrenaline the way attention medicines do.

What research has looked at
The animal work
The 2013 paper in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics that introduced Dihexa reported that, by mouth or by injection, it improved performance in the Morris water maze, a swimming task that measures spatial memory, in rats whose memory had been impaired with scopolamine and in aged rats. That paper carries a 2021 expression of concern. The strongest independent result is a 2021 paper in Brain Sciences, from a separate group, which reported improved memory-task performance in APP/PS1 mice, a strain engineered to accumulate amyloid plaques, alongside increased PI3K/Akt signalling.
What it shows. That a few labs have reported memory-task effects in rodent models of impairment.
What it does not show. Anything in people, of either sex. The live research describes no separate findings for females or males, and no study has tested Dihexa in healthy adults with ordinary complaints about recall.
The mechanism, and its retraction history
The developers proposed that Dihexa works by binding hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and making it a stronger activator of its receptor, c-Met. The two laboratory papers carrying that claim, from 2012 and 2014, received expressions of concern in 2021 and were retracted in April 2025. HGF/c-Met should be treated as the developing lab's hypothesis rather than an established finding. The same retracted 2014 paper is the source of the "forms new connections" claim about dendritic spines.
What human data exists
None. That is a thinner position than most compounded peptides. It is prescribed on mechanism plus a physician's judgement about a particular patient, and the fair description is "studied in animals," not "shown to work."

What matters for women
Brain fog has findable causes that are more common in women
Fatigue, hair shedding, cold intolerance, brain fog and low mood are the classic presentation of iron deficiency and of an underactive thyroid, both far more common in women than in men: iron deficiency because of menstrual blood loss, and thyroid disease because autoimmune thyroiditis is heavily skewed toward women. Ferritin can be low while a full blood count reads normal, and a ferritin at the floor of the normal range is the classic result that is technically normal and practically the answer. B12 deficiency produces fog with tingling and balance changes, and is common on metformin, acid suppressants and vegetarian diets. None of these responds to Dihexa, and each is inexpensive to find.
What it is How it shows up What finds it Iron deficiency Fog with fatigue, hair shedding, breathlessness on stairs Ferritin, not just haemoglobin Thyroid disease Fog with cold intolerance, weight change, dry skin TSH and free T4 Low B12 Fog with tingling or balance changes B12 level Poor sleep Fog that tracks bad nights A candid sleep history Perimenopause Fog arriving with cycle changes and 3 a.m. waking Reviewed as a hormonal transition rather than treated around Low mood or anxiety Fog with worry, flatness or poor motivation A conversation, and established treatments first The order a physician works through is in peptides for brain fog and focus and peptides for women. New or worsening memory problems in any adult need a proper work-up, and a diagnosed or suspected dementia belongs with a neurologist. Dihexa is not a treatment for Alzheimer's disease or any memory disorder.
Perimenopause and menopause
Fog during the menopausal transition is often driven by sleep disruption, thyroid disease or iron deficiency, and those should be excluded first. Dihexa is not hormone therapy, does not act on the hormones that change, and has not been tested for any menopause symptom, including memory or concentration. If the transition is the driver, it belongs in the conversation with your physician rather than being treated around. Pepti does not prescribe menopausal hormone therapy. The wider picture is in peptides for menopause.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
There is no human safety data of any kind for Dihexa, so there is none for pregnancy or lactation. It is not used in either situation. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or think you may be, tell your physician before starting; if you become pregnant on treatment, stop and contact them the same day. See can you take peptides while pregnant and do peptides affect fertility.
Cancer history, including breast and ovarian cancer
This is the consideration most specific to Dihexa. HGF/c-Met is a proliferation pathway, and c-Met over-activity is a feature of many cancers. No study has shown Dihexa causes or speeds a tumour, and no human safety data exists to rule the concern in or out. A personal or strong family history of breast, ovarian, endometrial or any other cancer goes on the intake in full, and many physicians will not prescribe Dihexa in that situation. More in can peptides cause cancer.
Contraception, the cycle and hormone therapy
Dihexa is not a hormone and is not described as acting on the cycle, hormonal contraception or menopausal hormone therapy. No study has looked at any of those directly, so list them on your intake, and report any cycle change on treatment even if another cause is the likelier explanation.
Blood-pressure medicines and other medications
There is no established interaction list, because the trials that would produce one have not been run. Dihexa's parent fragment comes from the same hormone family that many blood-pressure medicines act on; no interaction has been studied, which is a reason to list every medication on your intake rather than a reason for alarm.
Sport
The 2026 WADA Prohibited List does not name Dihexa. Women who compete in a tested sport should still check with their anti-doping body before starting anything.
Dihexa for Women
What the evidence does not establish
- That Dihexa improves memory, attention or thinking in women, or in anyone. That trial has not been run.
- Any effect on menopause symptoms, mood, hormones or the cycle.
- A human dose. The directions used are a prescribing standard, not the result of a dose-finding study.
- Safety in people over any duration, including in pregnancy, or what long-term stimulation of a growth pathway does.
- That the c-Met mechanism is correct, now that the papers supporting it have been withdrawn.
- Efficacy for any condition as an approved treatment. Dihexa is not approved for anything in any country.

Side effects and considerations
Nothing in the live research suggests the profile differs between women and men; there is no human data to compare.
| What is reported or relevant | When | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Injection-site redness or soreness | Any time | Rotate sites |
| Headache | Mostly early in a course | Report it if it persists |
| A restless, over-alert or wired feeling | Mostly the first days | Report it if it does not settle |
| Trouble sleeping | When dosed late in the day | Morning dosing is usual; follow your label |
| Pregnancy, trying to conceive or breastfeeding | Before and during treatment | Not used; tell your physician |
| Personal or strong family history of cancer | Before starting | Must be on your intake; a common reason not to prescribe |
| Facial or throat swelling, spreading rash, trouble breathing | Rare | Call 911 first, then tell your care team |

Where Dihexa stands with the FDA
Dihexa acetate was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's 503A bulk drug substances list in 2023 because there was no human exposure data. In April 2026 the FDA moved it out of Category 2, and it has announced a Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting before the end of February 2027 to consider it for the 503A bulks list. It remains legal to prescribe and dispense. Compounded Dihexa is not FDA approved.

How Pepti supplies Dihexa
| Product | What is in it | Typical directions | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dihexa | 5 mL multi-dose vial, Dihexa 1 mg/mL (5 mg per vial) | 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday | $219/mo |
| Semax | 5 mL multi-dose vial, Semax 2 mg/mL (10 mg per vial) | 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday | $229/mo |
| Selank | 5 mL multi-dose vial, Selank 2 mg/mL (10 mg per vial) | 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday | $229/mo |
At 1 mg/mL, 0.25 mL is 0.25 mg of Dihexa per dose (arithmetic from the vial strength, on a U-100 insulin syringe). A vial holds 20 doses, about four weeks, so refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill; the full chart is in Dihexa dosage. Semax is listed because a physician cautious about Dihexa's evidence base will often suggest it first, and Selank because fog driven by anxiety and stress usually points there instead. The comparisons are in Dihexa vs Semax and Selank vs Dihexa. Your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake, and they are printed on the vial.
Every price is all-in, covering medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance. Vials arrive as solutions ready to use, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, shipped refrigerated with ice packs.

Where to get Dihexa prescribed
Dihexa cannot be bought legitimately without a prescription. Products sold "for research use only" have no accountable pharmacy behind their identity, purity, sterility or concentration. The prescription route:
- Complete a free online intake covering your history, medications, pregnancy and contraception status, any cancer history and what you want help with.
- A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
- If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares it to that prescription. Lot test results are published at /quality/lab-results.
- It ships refrigerated with your directions printed on the vial.
- Your physician stays reachable for questions and side effects.
Step by step: how to get Dihexa prescribed online. Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account.

Common questions
Dihexa for Women, answered.
Nobody can say, because it has never been studied in people of either sex. The evidence is rodent memory-task work and cell studies. Any benefit for women is described in animals, not established.
The live research describes no female-specific findings. Rodent studies reported better spatial-memory performance in impaired and aged rats and in a mouse Alzheimer's model. See Dihexa benefits.
It has not been tested for that. Fog during the transition is often driven by sleep disruption, thyroid disease or iron deficiency, which should be checked first.
It is not a hormone and is not described as acting on the reproductive axis. No study has looked at cycle effects, so report any change to your physician.
No interaction has been described, but no study has looked at either combination. List both on your intake so your physician can review them together.
No. There is no human safety data of any kind. If you become pregnant on treatment, stop and contact your physician the same day.
Tell your physician before starting. With no human data at all, the usual approach is not to start an elective injectable while actively trying.
Its proposed mechanism runs through a growth pathway over-active in many cancers, and there is no human safety data. Any personal cancer history must be on your intake, and many physicians will not prescribe Dihexa in that situation.
Nobody has compared them in women. Semax has a longer history of human use than Dihexa has anywhere, which is why a cautious physician often suggests it first.
The same as anyone's, as far as is known: injection-site redness, headache, a wired feeling in the first days and poor sleep if dosed late. These are prescriber reports, not trial data.
At Pepti, Dihexa is $219 a month, all-in, covering medication, physician review, refill management and shipping.
No. Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account. The free assessment goes to a physician licensed in your state. A consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
