Dihexa Side Effects: What Is Reported, the Cancer Question, and What to Report
This page is a practical reference: what is reported, when, what to do about it, what to report the same day, and who should not take Dihexa. What the research has looked at on the benefit side is in Dihexa benefits, and the full reference is what is Dihexa.

Treatments mentioned
The side effects reported with Dihexa are mostly minor: injection-site redness or soreness, headache, trouble sleeping if it is dosed late in the day, and a restless or over-alert feeling in the first days. Those are prescriber reports, not trial figures, because Dihexa has never been studied in people and the FDA states it has not identified any human exposure data for dihexa acetate by any route. The larger question is theoretical: its proposed mechanism runs through a growth pathway, HGF and c-Met, that is over-active in many cancers, and nothing either confirms or rules out a long-term risk. A personal history of cancer, pregnancy and breastfeeding are the clearest reasons it is not prescribed.

Dihexa Side Effects
The short answer
| Side effect | How it is known | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Injection-site redness or soreness | Prescriber reports | Rotate sites |
| Headache | Prescriber reports, mostly early in a course | Report it if it persists |
| Restless, over-alert or "wired" feeling | Prescriber reports, mostly the first days | Report it if it does not settle |
| Trouble sleeping | Prescriber reports, when dosed late in the day | Morning dosing is usual; follow your label |
| Long-term effect on a growth pathway linked to cancer | Theoretical, from the proposed mechanism | Tell your physician about any cancer history before starting |
| Swelling of the face, lips or throat, spreading rash, trouble breathing | Possible with any injected medication | Call 911 first, then tell your care team |
No row in that table has a percentage, and that is the honest position. There is no trial to take one from.
The medication this page covers:
| Product | What is in it | Typical directions | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dihexa | 5 mL multi-dose vial, Dihexa 1 mg/mL (5 mg per vial) | 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday; 0.25 mg per dose, 20 doses, about 4 weeks | $219/mo |
The price is all-in: medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. Compounded medications are not FDA approved, and Dihexa is not an approved drug anywhere.
Dihexa Side Effects
Why there are no side-effect percentages for Dihexa
Most side-effect pages are built from a drug label: so many people on the drug, so many on placebo, so many reported nausea. Dihexa has nothing of that kind.
| What usually exists for a medication | Dihexa |
|---|---|
| Randomised, placebo-controlled human trials | None |
| Open-label human trials or case series | None published |
| Human exposure data reviewed by the FDA | None identified, by any route |
| Animal tolerability | Reported as well tolerated at the doses used, in short rodent studies |
| An established interaction list | None |
| Long-term safety data | None |
That is why Dihexa was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's 503A bulk substances list in 2023: the stated concern was the complete absence of human exposure data. It was moved out of Category 2 in April 2026 and is scheduled for a Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting before the end of February 2027. Leaving Category 2 changed its regulatory position; it did not add any safety data.
Rodent tolerability studies are short and do not answer the questions that matter for people taking a medication for months. Everything below about what people feel comes from prescriber experience, which is real but unpublished and unmeasured.

Common Dihexa side effects
Injection-site reactions
Redness, mild soreness or a small tender spot where the needle went in is the commonest complaint with any subcutaneous injection. Dihexa is injected into the fat layer of the abdomen or thigh. Rotating sites so the same spot is not used repeatedly is the usual answer. Technique is covered in how to inject peptides safely.
Headache
Prescribers describe mild headache, mostly early in a course. It is worth reporting if it persists or is getting worse rather than better, and a severe or unusual headache is a same-day call.
A wired feeling, and trouble sleeping
Some people describe feeling restless or over-alert in the first days, and some describe trouble sleeping if they dose late in the day. That is why morning dosing is usual. If sleep is disturbed, the timing printed on your label is the first thing to check with your care team; do not change your own schedule or dose.
What people do not usually report
Dihexa is not a stimulant and does not act on dopamine or noradrenaline the way attention medicines do. No withdrawal or rebound is described in the animal literature after stopping. Many people report nothing at all in the first fortnight, which is not a sign of a problem.
Dihexa Side Effects
The theoretical concern: growth signalling and cancer
This is the side-effect question most worth understanding, and it is a question rather than a finding.
The developers of Dihexa proposed that it works by making hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) a stronger activator of its receptor, c-Met. HGF and c-Met are best known from liver regeneration and cancer biology, and c-Met over-activity is a feature of many cancers. If the mechanism is right, Dihexa is stimulating a proliferation pathway.
| What is known | What it means |
|---|---|
| The proposed mechanism runs through HGF/c-Met, a growth pathway | The reason for caution |
| The two papers carrying that mechanism were retracted in April 2025 | The mechanism itself is now unconfirmed |
| An independent 2021 mouse study pointed to PI3K/Akt, a downstream route shared by growth-factor receptors | Still a growth-signalling pathway |
| No study has shown Dihexa causes or speeds a tumour | No evidence of harm |
| No human safety data exists | No evidence of safety either |
The absence of evidence either way is the problem. That is why a personal or strong family history of cancer is asked about at intake, why many physicians will not prescribe Dihexa in that situation, and why most prescribers structure it as a defined course with a review rather than indefinite use. More on how this question is handled across peptides is in can peptides cause cancer.

When to message your care team
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| Injection-site redness that is spreading, hot, or not fading after a few days | Message your care team |
| Headache that persists across several doses | Message your care team |
| Restlessness or poor sleep that has not settled | Message your care team about timing; do not change it yourself |
| Any new or unexplained symptom during a course | Message your care team promptly |
| Anything you are unsure about | Message your care team before your next dose |
Your physician stays reachable through your account for questions and side effects. If side effects lead to a change, your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake and how you are doing, and the new directions are printed on the vial. Never change, skip or double a dose on your own.

Serious reactions: what needs emergency care
| Symptom | What it may be | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, widespread hives, trouble breathing or swallowing | A serious allergic reaction | Call 911 or get emergency care first, then tell your care team |
| A sudden, severe headache unlike any before | Needs urgent assessment, whether or not it is related | Call 911 |
| A large amount injected by mistake, or a dose taken by someone it was not prescribed for | Possible overdose | Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222, and message your care team |
Allergic reactions to injected peptides are uncommon but real. Stop and contact your physician for any reaction that is severe, spreading, or involves difficulty breathing.

Dosing errors
One risk with any multi-dose vial is drawing the wrong amount. Dihexa's typical directions are 0.25 mL, which is 25 units on a U-100 insulin syringe; from the 1 mg/mL vial that is 0.25 mg per dose. Pepti prints the dose in both millilitres and syringe units for the exact vial you receive. If the label does not match what you expected, do not inject; message your care team. If you miss a dose, follow your directions and do not take two doses to make up for one.

Who should not take Dihexa, or should discuss it first
| Situation | Status |
|---|---|
| Personal history of cancer | Many physicians will not prescribe it; it must be on your intake |
| Strong family history of cancer | Needs discussion before prescribing |
| Pregnancy or breastfeeding | Not used; there is no human pregnancy or lactation data |
| New or worsening memory problems not yet evaluated | A medical work-up first: thyroid, B12, sleep, mood and medications |
| Diagnosed or suspected dementia | A neurologist; Dihexa is not a treatment for it |
| Previous allergic reaction to Dihexa or an ingredient of the vial | Rules it out |
| Under 18 | Pepti prescribes to adults only |
| Tested athletes | Check your sport's current prohibited list and ask your anti-doping body before starting |
Interactions
There is no established interaction list, because the trials that would produce one have not been run. That is why the intake asks for every medication and supplement you take, and why a physician reviews it rather than a form. Some physicians prescribe Dihexa alongside Semax because they act on different systems; no study has tested the combination, so it means two unknowns at once.
Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account.
Dihexa Side Effects
Dihexa vs Semax side effects
| Dihexa | Semax | |
|---|---|---|
| Human safety record | None | Decades of use as a registered medicine in Russia, described as well tolerated |
| Reported effects | Injection-site redness, headache, wired feeling, poor sleep if dosed late | Injection-site redness or bruising, occasional early headache, restlessness if dosed late |
| Key safety question | Long-term effect of stimulating a growth pathway | Interaction with stimulants, from a mouse dopamine finding |
| Cancer history | Especially relevant | Not singled out |
A physician cautious about Dihexa's blank safety record will often suggest Semax first. The full comparison is in Dihexa vs Semax.
Dihexa Side Effects
What the evidence shows, honestly
Dihexa's side-effect profile is not known in the way a drug's is known. The animal work reports it as well tolerated in short studies. Prescribers report mostly minor effects. There is no human trial, no human exposure data, no interaction list and no long-term follow-up. The growth-pathway concern is theoretical and unresolved, and the retraction of the mechanism papers makes it harder, not easier, to reason about.
Any provider describing Dihexa as having "no side effects" or as "safe long term" is claiming something nobody has measured. The fair description is: minor effects reported in practice, and a real gap in knowledge that your physician weighs against your history before prescribing.

Where to get Dihexa prescribed
Dihexa cannot be bought legitimately without a prescription. Products sold "for research use only" have no accountable pharmacy behind their identity, purity, sterility or concentration, which adds a second unknown to a compound that already has one. The prescription route:
- Complete a free online intake covering your history, medications and what you want help with.
- A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
- If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares it to that prescription. Lot test results are published at /quality/lab-results.
- It ships refrigerated with ice packs, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, and your directions printed on the vial.
- Your care team stays reachable for side effects and questions. Refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill.
Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance. The step-by-step page is how to get Dihexa prescribed online.

Common questions
Dihexa Side Effects, answered.
Prescribers report injection-site redness or soreness, headache, trouble sleeping if it is dosed late in the day, and a restless or wired feeling in the first days. These are impressions from practice, not trial data, because Dihexa has never been studied in people.
Nobody can say, because there is no human safety data. The FDA states it has not identified any human exposure data for dihexa acetate by any route. Animal studies report it as well tolerated in the short term. Its proposed growth-pathway mechanism raises an unresolved long-term question.
No study has shown that. But its proposed mechanism runs through HGF/c-Met, a growth pathway over-active in many cancers, and no human data exists to rule the concern in or out. A personal history of cancer must be on your intake, and it is a common reason a physician declines.
Headache is one of the effects prescribers report, mostly early in a course. Report it if it persists, and treat a sudden, severe headache as an emergency.
Some people report trouble sleeping when it is dosed late in the day, which is why morning dosing is usual. Talk to your care team about timing rather than changing it yourself.
Some people describe a restless or over-alert feeling in the first days. It is not a stimulant and does not act on dopamine. Report it if it does not settle.
There is no measured timeline. The early effects prescribers describe, such as a wired feeling or headache, are usually described in the first days to weeks.
Unknown. No one has been followed long term on Dihexa, which is why most prescribers set it up as a defined course with a review rather than indefinite use.
Semax has the larger human safety record, from decades of use in Russia. Dihexa has none. See Dihexa vs Semax.
No. There is no human pregnancy or lactation data, and it is not used in either situation.
Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 and message your care team. If there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or any other severe symptom, call 911.
No. Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account. The free assessment goes to a physician licensed in your state. A consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
