Is KPV Banned in Sports? WADA S0 Status, the KPV Blends and Drug Tests

This page is general information, not legal or anti-doping advice. Lists are revised every year and the responsibility for checking sits with the athlete.

KPV (Injectable)
KPV$229/mo

KPV is not named on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, but a tested athlete should not treat it as permitted: the S0 class prohibits, at all times, any pharmacological substance with no current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use, and KPV has no approved product in the United States. Live Pepti pages advise tested athletes to assume a prohibited status and check with their anti-doping body. The blends are not a judgement call: KLOW, ELEVATE and FORTIFY all contain BPC-157, which is named under S0, and KLOW also contains TB-500. A standard workplace drug test does not look for KPV.

Why "not named" does not mean "allowed"

What S0 says

S0, Non-Approved Substances, prohibits at all times "any pharmacological substance which is not addressed by any of the subsequent sections of the List and with no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use." It names BPC-157 as an example. It does not need to name KPV for KPV to fall inside it.

KPV is a three-amino-acid fragment of alpha-MSH. It has no approved product anywhere in the United States, and the FDA's review for its July 2026 advisory committee found no published studies in which KPV products were used in humans. That is the profile S0 is written for.

WADA's own warning

The explanatory note to the 2027 Prohibited List says: "Many peptides, not approved for human use by regulatory authorities, fulfill the criteria of the World Anti-Doping Code for inclusion on the Prohibited List and fall under the S0 (Non-Approved Substances) class, or other classes (such as S2 or S4). Even if a peptide is not specifically named on the List, utmost caution should be taken as it may still be prohibited."

Feature of S0 What it means for a tested athlete using KPV
Prohibited at all times No off-season window
Specified Substance Affects sanctioning, not whether use is permitted
Based on approval status Prohibition follows from the lack of approval, not from a finding about performance
Carried into 2027 The 2027 List keeps the S0 structure

The KPV products, one by one

Product What is in it Status for a tested athlete Price
KPV 10 mg KPV in a 5 mL vial Not named; S0 can reach it. Ask your anti-doping body first $229/mo
KLOW GHK-Cu, KPV, BPC-157, TB-500 Prohibited: BPC-157 (S0) and TB-500 (S2.3) $259/mo
ELEVATE Blend Semax, Selank, BPC-157, KPV Prohibited: BPC-157 (S0) $249/mo
FORTIFY Blend Thymosin alpha-1, BPC-157, KPV, LL-37 Prohibited: BPC-157 (S0) $289/mo

Prices are all-in monthly figures covering the medication, physician review, refill management and shipping. There is no separate membership fee. A blend is prohibited by virtue of any prohibited component; see is KLOW banned in sports.

A prescription is not an exemption

Anti-doping rules work independently of prescribing law. A licensed physician can prescribe KPV and a licensed pharmacy can dispense it, and its use can still be a violation for someone in a tested pool.

Strict liability. Article 2.1.1 of the World Anti-Doping Code makes it the athlete's personal duty to ensure no prohibited substance enters their body; intent, fault or negligence do not need to be shown.

Therapeutic use exemptions. A TUE requires a diagnosed medical condition supported by clinical evidence, no enhancement beyond a return to normal health, no reasonable permitted therapeutic alternative, and a need not caused by earlier prohibited use. Where approved treatments exist for the condition, the "no reasonable permitted alternative" condition is hard to meet. USADA requires athletes in its testing pools to hold a TUE in advance; others are directed to the TUE Pre-Check Form.

Stored samples. Under Code Article 6.6 a negative sample can be stored and reanalysed, and Article 17 allows a charge within ten years.

College sport

The NCAA bans "peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics," with published examples including BPC-157 and TB-500. KPV is not a named example, but the NCAA states that any substance chemically or pharmacologically related to a banned class is also banned, even if not listed. Take the question to your athletics health care provider before starting. The KPV blends contain BPC-157, which the NCAA names.

Workplace and other drug tests

Employment testing is a different system. The federal panel in 49 CFR 40.85 covers marijuana metabolites, cocaine metabolite, opiates, semi-synthetic opioids, 6-acetylmorphine, phencyclidine, amphetamines and MDMA. KPV, a tripeptide, is not on it and has no structural relationship to those targets. See do peptides show up on a drug test.

Type of test Does it look for KPV? What to do
Pre-employment or workplace panel No Declare prescriptions through the confidential route if asked
Anti-doping test in tested sport The rule is about use, not detection Ask your anti-doping body before starting
Military or regulated profession Policies vary Read your own policy
Before surgery A safety question Tell the treating clinician everything you take

Where KPV stands with the FDA

KPV was among the twelve peptides the FDA removed from Category 2 of its interim 503A list on 15 April 2026, after the nominations were withdrawn. On 23 July 2026 the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee reviewed KPV for wound healing and inflammatory conditions and voted 8 to 6, with one abstention, to recommend adding it, as the free base and the acetate, to the 503A Bulks List. FDA's own reviewers had recommended against inclusion, citing the thinness of the safety and efficacy data. A committee vote is a recommendation; the FDA's final determination comes through rulemaking.

None of that changes anti-doping status. Compounding eligibility is not a regulatory approval for human therapeutic use, and S0 turns on approval. Broader context is in are peptides FDA approved.

What the evidence shows, honestly

KPV has no human studies. The evidence is cell work, including human intestinal, T-cell and bronchial cell lines, and mouse models of colitis, skin inflammation and brain injury. A 2008 paper in Gastroenterology described PepT1-mediated uptake of KPV reducing intestinal inflammation in experimental models, and much of the mouse gut work gave KPV orally rather than by injection. None of it measured athletic performance, and prohibition under S0 does not imply any. The research is in what is KPV and KPV benefits, and safety in KPV side effects. How it compares with BPC-157 is in KPV vs BPC-157.

If you compete

Your situation What to do
In a tested pool, considering KPV alone Check Global DRO and ask your anti-doping organization in writing before starting
Considering KLOW, ELEVATE or FORTIFY Do not. Each contains BPC-157, named under S0
A genuine medical need Apply for a TUE in advance
Already used KPV Talk to your sport's anti-doping body or team physician
Not subject to testing The anti-doping rule does not reach you
Considering a research-labelled vial Do not. Unverified contents are a strict-liability problem, see research peptides vs prescription peptides

Keep the Global DRO reference number from every search; it is your record that you checked. The wider picture is in peptides for athletes and is BPC-157 banned.

Where to get KPV prescribed

KPV cannot be bought legitimately without a prescription. Sites selling it "for research use only" are not accountable for identity, purity, sterility or concentration. The prescription route:

  1. Complete a free online intake covering your history, medications and goals. If you are subject to testing, say so.
  2. A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
  3. If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A pharmacy compounds it. Lot results are at /quality/lab-results.
  4. It ships refrigerated with ice packs, sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, with your directions printed on the vial.
  5. Refills come every 28 days, one vial per fill.
