Is Dihexa Banned in Sports? WADA, the S0 Class and What Tested Athletes Should Know

This page covers what the list does and does not say about Dihexa, why S0 matters more for Dihexa than for most compounded peptides, how the other cognitive products are classified, what college sport and workplace tests look for, and where Dihexa stands with the FDA. It is general information, not anti-doping advice. For the compound itself, read what is Dihexa.

Dihexa (Injectable)
Dihexa$219/mo

Dihexa is not named on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, but a tested athlete should treat it as off limits unless their anti-doping body says otherwise. The list's S0 class prohibits, at all times, any pharmacological substance not covered elsewhere that has no current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use, and Dihexa is not approved for anything in any country. The FDA has said it has not identified any human exposure data for dihexa acetate by any route. A standard workplace drug panel does not look for it.

Is Dihexa Banned in Sports? WADA, the S0 Class and What Tested Athletes Should Know

The short answer

The question The answer What to do
Is Dihexa named on the 2026 WADA List? No Do not read that as permission
Is it approved for human use anywhere? No. It is not an approved treatment for any condition in any country That is the S0 condition
Could it fall under S0? Every condition in the S0 clause appears to be met; the determination belongs to your anti-doping body Check Global DRO and ask in writing
Is there human data for it? None. No randomised, open-label or case-series data in humans Relevant to any exemption request
Will it show up on a workplace drug test? No. Workplace panels screen for drugs of abuse only Nothing to do
Does a prescription protect a tested athlete? No. Anti-doping runs on strict liability Only an advance therapeutic use exemption does

Is Dihexa Banned in Sports? WADA, the S0 Class and What Tested Athletes Should Know

What Dihexa is, briefly

Dihexa is a small modified peptide derived from angiotensin IV, developed at Washington State University and described in rodent and cell work as acting on the hepatocyte growth factor and c-Met system. It is not an approved treatment for Alzheimer's disease, dementia or any memory disorder in any country, and it has not been through human trials for those conditions or anything else. The evidence is rodent behavioural studies and cell-culture work. The fuller picture is in Dihexa benefits and Dihexa side effects.

How the S0 class applies

  • The wording

S0, Non-Approved Substances, prohibits at all times "any pharmacological substance which is not addressed by any of the subsequent sections of the List and with no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use." The list describes the class as covering drugs in development, discontinued drugs, designer drugs and veterinary-only substances, and its 2026 text names BPC-157 as an example. All S0 substances are Specified Substances, which affects sanctioning but does not make use permitted.

  • Why Dihexa is a clearer S0 case than most

Many compounded peptides sit in an ambiguous place because some approved product, somewhere, contains a related molecule. Dihexa does not. It has no approval for human therapeutic use in any country, and the FDA's own summary says it has not identified human exposure data on drug products containing dihexa acetate by any route.

S0 condition Dihexa, on the live record
A pharmacological substance Yes: a modified peptide prescribed as an injection
Not addressed by another section of the List Not named in any section the live pages cite
No current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use Not approved for any condition in any country

The classification itself is a decision for the anti-doping body that governs your sport. But a tested athlete reasoning from "I could not find Dihexa on the list" to "Dihexa is permitted" is reasoning the way the S0 clause was written to stop.

  • WADA's own warning

WADA's explanatory note to the 2027 List says many peptides not approved for human use "fall under the S0 (Non-Approved Substances) class, or other classes (such as S2 or S4). Even if a peptide is not specifically named on the List, utmost caution should be taken as it may still be prohibited."

How the other cognitive products are classified

People looking at Dihexa are usually also looking at Semax, Selank and the cognitive blends. The live pages describe the 2026 List this way:

Product What is in it WADA position on the live record
Dihexa 5 mg Dihexa in 5 mL (1 mg/mL) Not named; S0 caution applies
Semax Semax alone Not named; its parent hormone class, corticotrophins, appears at S2.2.2, so ask about an ACTH fragment before assuming anything
Selank Selank alone Not named; S0 caution applies
ELEVATE Blend Semax, Selank, BPC-157, KPV Prohibited: BPC-157 is named in S0
SYNAPSE Blend Semax, Selank, MOTS-c, tesamorelin Prohibited: MOTS-c is named under S4.4.1 and tesamorelin under S2.2.4

Dihexa is not in either blend. The pattern is that the blends are prohibited by name through one or more ingredients, and the single cognitive agents are unnamed rather than cleared. The comparison of Dihexa with Semax is in Dihexa vs Semax.

College sport, employers and drug tests

The NCAA

College athletes are governed by the NCAA's banned drug classes. The NCAA states that its list is not exhaustive and that any substance chemically or pharmacologically related to a banned class is also banned even if not named, with the school and student-athlete both accountable. Dihexa is not among the published examples the live pages cite. Ask your athletics health care provider before starting anything.

Workplace panels

A standard pre-employment or workplace drug panel does not look for Dihexa. Those panels screen for a short, fixed list of drugs of abuse set in regulation, and nobody manufactures an immunoassay for a compounded cognitive peptide. Military, law enforcement and regulated professions can run stricter policies, so read your own. The detail is in do peptides show up on a drug test.

Strict liability and exemptions

Anti-doping runs on strict liability: the athlete is responsible for what is in their sample, whatever the intent or the prescription. Only a therapeutic use exemption granted in advance makes a prohibited substance permitted, and it requires a diagnosed condition supported by clinical evidence, no reasonable permitted alternative, and no enhancement beyond a return to normal health. For a compound with no human exposure data and no approved indication anywhere, that is about as hard a case as exists. Memory complaints also have treatable causes, among them thyroid disease, low B12, sleep apnoea, depression and medication side effects, that need to be looked for first.

Where Dihexa stands with the FDA

Dihexa acetate was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's interim 503A list in 2023, the category for substances with identified safety concerns, where the stated concern was the complete absence of human exposure data. In the FDA's April 2026 revisions it was moved out of Category 2, and the category document updated 14 May 2026 does not list it in Category 1, 2 or 3. The FDA has announced a Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting before the end of February 2027 to consider dihexa acetate for the 503A Bulks List. A committee vote is a recommendation; the FDA's determination comes afterwards. Dihexa is legal to prescribe and dispense with a valid prescription, and compounded medications are not FDA approved. None of that is a drug approval, so none of it changes the S0 question.

If you are not a tested athlete

The anti-doping rules do not reach someone outside any testing pool. At Pepti, Dihexa is $219 a month, all-in, covering medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. It is a 5 mL multi-dose vial at 1 mg/mL (5 mg per vial). The typical printed direction is 0.25 mL (25 units on a U-100 syringe) subcutaneously once daily Monday through Friday, which is 0.25 mg per dose and 20 doses, about four weeks, so refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill. Your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake, and they are printed on the vial.
