Is Kisspeptin Banned in Sports? WADA S2.2.1, Men vs Women, Drug Tests
This page is general information, not legal or anti-doping advice. Lists are revised every year and the responsibility for checking sits with the athlete.

Yes, for male athletes. The 2026 WADA Prohibited List names "kisspeptin and its agonist analogues" under S2.2.1, testosterone-stimulating peptides in males, prohibited at all times, in and out of competition, and the 2027 List keeps the same entry. Kisspeptin is named in the List itself, not caught by a catch-all. The class is worded for males; a female athlete should not assume that makes it permitted and should ask her anti-doping organization in writing before starting. The EUPHORIA Blend, which contains kisspeptin-10, also contains MOTS-c and BPC-157, both prohibited at all times for everyone. A standard workplace drug test does not look for kisspeptin.

What S2.2.1 says
S2 covers peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics. Its first subsection, S2.2.1, prohibits testosterone-stimulating peptides in males, and lists them:
- chorionic gonadotrophin (CG)
- luteinizing hormone (LH)
- GnRH and its agonist analogues
- kisspeptin and its agonist analogues
Kisspeptin-10, the ten-amino-acid fragment Pepti prescribes, shares the receptor-binding tail of the longer kisspeptins, which is why "kisspeptin and its agonist analogues" reaches it. Everything in S2 is a non-Specified Substance, which matters at the sanctioning stage.
Why kisspeptin is in this class
Kisspeptin sits upstream of the reproductive hormones. It is released by hypothalamic neurons and acts on the neurons that make GnRH, which tells the pituitary to release LH and FSH, which in turn drive the body's own testosterone production. Short intravenous studies, mostly with the full-length kisspeptin-54, reported acute rises in LH and testosterone in men. A substance that stimulates endogenous testosterone in males sits in the same class as hCG and LH for the same reason.
| Substance | Class | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Kisspeptin and agonist analogues | S2.2.1 | Males, at all times |
| hCG, LH, GnRH agonists | S2.2.1 | Males, at all times |
| MOTS-c | S4.4.1, AMPK activators | All athletes, at all times |
| BPC-157 | S0, non-approved substances | All athletes, at all times |

Men and women: read the wording carefully
The List's own heading for S2.2.1 says "in males." For a male athlete the answer is simple: kisspeptin is prohibited at all times.
For a female athlete, the honest answer is that the class wording refers to males, and that is as far as a web page can take it. Anti-doping rules contain other provisions, sports adopt the Code in different ways, and the List changes every year. Before starting kisspeptin, a woman in a tested pool should search it on Global DRO for her sport and country, keep the reference number, and ask her national anti-doping organization if the result is unclear. Kisspeptin research in women is described in kisspeptin for women.

Can labs detect kisspeptin?
Yes. Detection of kisspeptin-10 in urine by liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry was published in Biomedical Chromatography in 2024. A 2026 paper in The Analyst described a harmonised workflow for peptidic doping agents in dried and liquid blood.
Detection windows for small peptides are generally short, often hours to a few days. That is not a strategy. A negative sample can be stored and reanalysed under Code Article 6.6, and Article 17 allows a charge within ten years.

Why a prescription does not protect you
Kisspeptin at Pepti is a valid prescription. It is still an anti-doping violation for a male athlete in a tested pool to use it. Article 2.1.1 of the Code makes it the athlete's personal duty to ensure that no prohibited substance enters their body, and intent, fault or negligence do not need to be shown.
Therapeutic use exemptions
A TUE requires a diagnosed medical condition supported by clinical evidence, no enhancement beyond a return to normal health, no reasonable permitted therapeutic alternative, and a need not caused by earlier prohibited use. A low-testosterone picture in a male athlete is exactly the kind of case where those conditions get scrutinised. USADA requires athletes in its testing pools to hold a TUE in advance; others are directed to the TUE Pre-Check Form.
Switching from testosterone does not help
Testosterone and anabolic steroids are prohibited, and kisspeptin is prohibited for males too. Moving from one to the other does not make a tested male athlete compliant. The comparison is in peptides vs TRT and steroids and peptides for testosterone.

College sport
The NCAA bans "peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics," with published examples including human chorionic gonadotropin, and separately bans hormone and metabolic modulators. Kisspeptin is not one of the NCAA's named examples, but the NCAA states that any substance chemically or pharmacologically related to a banned class is also banned. Speak to your athletics health care provider before starting.

Workplace and other drug tests
Employment panels look for drugs of abuse. The federal panel in 49 CFR 40.85 covers marijuana metabolites, cocaine metabolite, opiates, semi-synthetic opioids, 6-acetylmorphine, phencyclidine, amphetamines and MDMA. Kisspeptin is not on it and does not cross-react with any of those targets. See do peptides show up on a drug test.
| Type of test | Does it look for kisspeptin? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-employment or workplace panel | No | Declare prescriptions through the confidential route if asked |
| Anti-doping test, male athlete | Yes, it is prohibited | Do not use it in a tested pool |
| Anti-doping test, female athlete | Check with your anti-doping body | Search Global DRO and keep the reference |
| Military or regulated profession | Policies vary | Read your own policy |
| Hormone bloodwork | Kisspeptin can change LH and testosterone results | Make sure the clinician reading them knows you take it |

Where kisspeptin stands with the FDA
Kisspeptin-10 was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's interim 503A bulk drug substances list on 29 September 2023, citing immunogenicity potential with injected use, incomplete characterization of impurities, and limited subcutaneous safety data. On 29 October 2024 the advisory committee voted 0 in favour and 11 against adding it to the 503A Bulks List for secondary hypogonadism in men. It was not among the peptides moved out of Category 2 in April 2026 and remains there on the list updated 14 May 2026. Category 2 is an interim policy position, not a ban on the molecule, and no final rule has been issued. Kisspeptin is not an FDA-approved drug, and compounded medications are not FDA approved.
None of this affects anti-doping status, which comes from the List.

What the evidence shows, honestly
Kisspeptin has more human research than most peptides, but almost none of it tested the product people are prescribed. Most studies used kisspeptin-54 by intravenous infusion as a single dose or short course measured over hours, and continuous exposure blunts the response. No trial has measured what a subcutaneous kisspeptin-10 course does over weeks. Being prohibited reflects the mechanism, not a finding that kisspeptin improves athletic performance.
