Kisspeptin Side Effects: What the Studies Report, What Is Not Known, and What to Watch

This page is a practical reference to what is reported, what to watch and when to message your care team. What kisspeptin is, how it works and the full FDA history are in what is kisspeptin, and the comparison with the other desire peptide is in kisspeptin vs PT-141.

Kisspeptin (Injectable)
Kisspeptin$229/mo

In the published human studies, kisspeptin is described as well tolerated, and the two sexual-desire trials reported no serious adverse events attributed to it. What is reported clinically with kisspeptin-10 injections is mostly minor: injection-site redness or soreness, brief flushing, headache and occasional nausea. The bigger issue is what is not known. Most human studies used a different form (kisspeptin-54), often intravenously and as a single dose, and repeated subcutaneous kisspeptin-10 over months has not been studied, which is the gap the FDA has flagged. Because kisspeptin stimulates sex-hormone production, a history of hormone-sensitive cancer must be raised with your physician first.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

The short answer

Side effect How it is described What to do
Injection-site redness or soreness The most common report Rotate sites; report anything spreading or worse after 48 hours
Brief flushing Occasional, around the time of a dose Usually passes; report it if it persists
Headache Occasional, mostly early Report it if it persists
Nausea Occasional Report it if it affects eating
Serious adverse events None attributed to kisspeptin in the desire trials Not a documented pattern
Long-term effects of repeated kisspeptin-10 Not studied The main unknown

The product this page covers:

Product What is in it Typical printed directions Price
Kisspeptin 5 mL multi-dose vial, Kisspeptin-10 2 mg/mL (10 mg per vial) 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously once daily, Monday through Friday $229/mo
EUPHORIA Blend 10 mg MOTS-c, 10 mg BPC-157, 50 mg GHK-Cu and 2 mg kisspeptin in 5 mL Printed on the vial $279/mo

At 2 mg/mL, 0.25 mL is 0.5 mg of kisspeptin-10 per dose (arithmetic from the vial strength, on a U-100 insulin syringe), and a vial holds 20 doses, about four weeks of weekday dosing. Your own directions are set by your physician after reviewing your intake and are printed on the vial. Prices are all-in: medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. Kisspeptin is compounded by a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A pharmacy. Compounded medications are not FDA approved.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Why kisspeptin's side effects are mostly minor

Kisspeptin is a hormone the body already makes. Hypothalamic neurons release it, and it acts on the neurons that make gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH tells the pituitary to release luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which drive testosterone in the testes and oestrogen and ovulation in the ovaries. Kisspeptin is not a sex hormone, does not act on the gonads, and adds no hormone from outside.

Two features of that mechanism shape the side-effect picture:

  • It is fast and short. In the research, LH rises within an hour and the peptide is cleared within minutes. There is no drug level held for days.
  • It prompts your own axis rather than replacing it. External testosterone suppresses the hypothalamus and pituitary. Kisspeptin works upstream, so there is no suppression of your own production to recover from when you stop.

That is the reason prescribers describe the early experience as unremarkable: an injection, no immediate sensation, and occasionally a brief flush or headache.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

What the human studies recorded

Kisspeptin has more human data than most peptides in this category, which makes its safety picture better documented. The caveat is which form and route the studies used.

Study population Form and route What was reported
Healthy volunteers, men and women Kisspeptin-54 and kisspeptin-10, mostly intravenous Acute hormone changes; kisspeptin-54 described as well tolerated
Women with hypothalamic amenorrhoea (2009, 2010) Subcutaneous kisspeptin-54, twice daily or twice weekly Described as well tolerated
Women undergoing IVF (2014, 2015, 2017) One or two subcutaneous kisspeptin-54 injections as a trigger Described as well tolerated
Women with low sexual desire (JAMA Network Open, 2022) Intravenous kisspeptin-54 infusion Described as well tolerated
Men with low sexual desire (JAMA Network Open, 2023) Intravenous kisspeptin-54 infusion No serious adverse events attributed to kisspeptin

The FDA's own review notes that acute intravenous kisspeptin-10 "has not raised any major safety concerns in studies to date." Across the Imperial College studies, kisspeptin-54 by infusion or subcutaneous injection is described as well tolerated.

The gap that matters

The prescription is kisspeptin-10, by subcutaneous injection, on weekdays, for weeks. That is not what the studies tested. The FDA found one study of a single subcutaneous kisspeptin-10 dose in healthy women and none by the intramuscular route. Safety of repeated subcutaneous kisspeptin-10 injections over months has not been established. Those are gaps in the data, not findings of harm, and they are why a physician reviews your history rather than a form.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

What is reported with kisspeptin-10 injections

Effect When Detail
Injection-site redness or soreness Any time The most common report; rotate sites
Brief flushing Around the time of a dose Transient
Headache Mostly early in a course Occasional
Nausea Occasional Usually mild
Nothing at all Common Normal, and not a sign the medication is failing

These come from clinical experience rather than a trial with a placebo arm, so there are no reliable percentages for them. Any source quoting rates for kisspeptin-10 injection side effects is citing something that does not exist in the published literature.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Why the weekday schedule matters

Kisspeptin behaves differently depending on how continuously the receptor is exposed. Animal work reviewed by the FDA describes continuous high-dose exposure producing an initial LH surge and then a return to baseline despite the infusion continuing, while intermittent exposure produced repeatable LH pulses. The Imperial group saw the same in women with hypothalamic amenorrhoea: twice-daily subcutaneous kisspeptin-54 for two weeks stimulated the axis and then the response faded (JCEM 2009), whereas twice-weekly injections for eight weeks sustained it (Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics 2010).

This is called tachyphylaxis. It is not a side effect in the usual sense, but it is the reason the schedule has gaps built in, and the reason taking extra doses is not a way to get more effect. Never change your own dose or schedule; if your physician changes it, the new directions are printed on your vial.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Hormone-sensitive conditions

Because kisspeptin stimulates sex-hormone production, some conditions need to be raised before starting:

  • A history of hormone-sensitive cancer. This must be discussed with your physician first.
  • Testosterone therapy. External testosterone suppresses the very system kisspeptin acts on. No trial has tested the combination, and kisspeptin is not used alongside it. Tell your physician if you are on testosterone; more in can you take peptides with testosterone.
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. Kisspeptin acts directly on the reproductive axis. The IVF work used kisspeptin-54 under fertility-clinic monitoring, and kisspeptin at Pepti is not a fertility treatment.

What the FDA has said

Kisspeptin-10 was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's interim 503A bulk drug substances list on 29 September 2023. The FDA's published reasoning is that compounded drugs containing kisspeptin-10 "may pose risk for immunogenicity for certain routes of administration and may have complexities with regard to peptide-related impurities and API characterization," and that it "has no, or only limited, safety-related information for the proposed routes of administration."

On 29 October 2024 the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee reviewed kisspeptin-10 for the nominated use of treating secondary hypogonadism in men and voted 0 in favour and 11 against adding it to the 503A Bulks List. Kisspeptin-10 remains in Category 2 on the FDA's list updated 14 May 2026. Category 2 is an interim policy position, not a scheduling action or a ban on the molecule, and the FDA has not issued a final rule. It is not an FDA-approved drug product.

The FDA's concerns are about what is not known: an immune response to a repeatedly injected short peptide and its impurities, and the absence of repeated-dosing studies. Where the vial comes from matters for exactly that reason; Pepti publishes lot test results at /quality/lab-results.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Serious reactions: what needs urgent care

Symptom What it may be What to do
Swelling of the face, lips or throat, widespread hives, trouble breathing Serious allergic reaction Call 911 first, then tell your care team
Chest pain or fainting Needs emergency assessment, whatever the cause Call 911
You think you injected far more than your directions Possible overdose Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 and message your care team
An injection site that is hot, spreading or worse after 48 hours Possible infection rather than irritation Message your care team the same day
A reaction that is severe or spreading Not an expected effect Stop and contact your care team

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Injection-site reactions and storage

Kisspeptin is injected under the skin, into the fat layer, usually in the abdomen or thigh, rotating sites. Site does not matter for effect, because kisspeptin acts in the brain and pituitary after absorption. A small lump that appears as you inject and settles within a day or two is fluid in the tissue; one that appears days later and is warm or spreading needs a same-day message. Technique is in how to inject peptides safely.

Kisspeptin-10 is a short peptide sensitive to heat, light and temperature swings, so the storage directions on the label are not optional. It ships refrigerated with ice packs, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads. Beyond-use dating runs from first puncture and is on the label.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

When to message your care team

  • flushing, headache or nausea that persists rather than passing
  • an injection site that is getting worse rather than better
  • any change in your periods, if you menstruate
  • you start testosterone or any other hormone treatment
  • you become pregnant or start trying to conceive
  • you are diagnosed with any cancer, or start any new medication

There is no established interaction list for kisspeptin, which is why the intake asks for every medication you take.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Who should not take kisspeptin, or should discuss it first

Situation Status
Personal history of hormone-sensitive cancer Must be raised with your physician first
On testosterone therapy Not used alongside it
Pregnancy, breastfeeding or trying to conceive Not used
Low testosterone confirmed on labs, with symptoms Kisspeptin is not a replacement therapy; the cause needs a conversation first
Tested athletes Check your sport's current prohibited list
Under 18 Pepti prescribes to adults only

Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

Kisspeptin vs PT-141 side effects

PT-141 has the better-documented and more noticeable side-effect profile, because it has phase 3 trials: nausea in 40% of women against 1.3% on placebo, flushing, headache and a transient blood-pressure rise after each dose. Kisspeptin is described as well tolerated in its studies, with mostly minor injection-site effects, but repeated subcutaneous use has not been studied over months. So PT-141's side effects are more common and better measured; kisspeptin's are milder as reported and less well measured. The full comparison is in kisspeptin vs PT-141, and the wider category is in peptides for libido.

Kisspeptin Side Effects

What the evidence shows, honestly

Kisspeptin's physiology is mapped in people, and across healthy volunteers, women with hypothalamic amenorrhoea, women undergoing IVF and men and women with low desire, kisspeptin-54 is described as well tolerated. That is a better human safety footing than most compounded peptides have. But almost none of it tests the product as it is prescribed: a different form in most studies, a different route in most, and single doses or short courses in every case. No withdrawal or rebound is described, and there is no suppression to recover from, but nothing establishes the safety of months of weekday kisspeptin-10 injections. The general picture for this category is in peptide side effects: what to watch for.

Where to get kisspeptin prescribed

Kisspeptin cannot be bought legitimately without a prescription. Products sold "for research use only" have no accountable pharmacy behind their identity, purity, sterility or concentration, which is the quality question the FDA has raised. The prescription route:

  1. Complete a free online intake covering your history, medications and what you want help with.
  2. A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
  3. If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares it to that prescription. Lot test results are published at /quality/lab-results.
  4. It ships refrigerated with ice packs, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, and your directions printed on the vial.
  5. Your care team stays reachable for side effects and questions. Refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill.

Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance, and prescribes kisspeptin in every state except Oklahoma, plus DC The step-by-step page is how to get kisspeptin prescribed online.
