Ipamorelin Side Effects: What Is Reported, Dose Signals, and What to Report
This page is a practical reference: what is reported, what each effect usually means, what to report and when, and who should not take ipamorelin. What the research has looked at on the benefit side is in ipamorelin benefits; the fuller safety analysis of ipamorelin and its most common pairing is in is CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin safe.

Treatments mentioned
The side effects reported with ipamorelin are mild and short-lived: injection-site redness or soreness, headache, flushing or warmth after a dose, light-headedness, hunger, and vivid dreams with evening dosing. It was described as well tolerated in the only two human studies that exist, a 1999 volunteer study and a seven-day surgical trial, so there are no long-term percentages to quote. The effects that matter most are the ones that signal more growth hormone than a person needs: fluid retention or puffiness, joint aches and tingling hands. Those go to your care team rather than being pushed through. Serious allergic reactions are uncommon and need emergency care.

The medication this page covers:
| Product | What is in it | Typical directions | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ipamorelin | 5 mL multi-dose vial, ipamorelin 1 mg/mL (5 mg per vial) | 0.25 mL (25 units) subcutaneously Monday through Friday nights at bedtime; 0.25 mg per dose, 20 doses, about 4 weeks | $239/mo |
The price is all-in: medication, physician review, refill management and shipping, with no membership fee. Pepti is cash-pay and does not bill insurance. Compounded medications are not FDA approved, and ipamorelin has never been an approved drug.
Ipamorelin Side Effects
Why there are no percentages for ipamorelin
Most side-effect pages are built from an approved drug label with rates against placebo. Ipamorelin has no label, because no manufacturer has taken it through approval.
| What usually exists for a medication | Ipamorelin |
|---|---|
| Randomised, placebo-controlled trials for the use prescribed | None |
| Human pharmacology | One 1999 dose-escalation study in healthy men, intravenous |
| The largest human trial | A 2014 phase 2 trial in bowel-resection patients, intravenous, up to seven days, which did not meet its efficacy endpoints |
| Human data for the subcutaneous route | None |
| Long-term safety data | None; the longest human exposure on record is seven days |
| An established interaction list | None |
Both human studies described ipamorelin as well tolerated. In the 2014 trial, treatment-emergent adverse events occurred in 87.5 per cent of people on ipamorelin and 94.8 per cent on placebo, which is what hospital recovery after bowel surgery looks like in both arms rather than a drug signal. The FDA's 2024 advisory committee cited a lack of safety and efficacy data for the two uses it examined, and its briefing document noted there were no clinical data for the subcutaneous route.
So everything below about what people feel comes from prescribing experience plus what is known about growth hormone itself. That is a legitimate basis for a physician to prescribe and monitor; it is not the same as a trial.
Ipamorelin Side Effects
The common effects
Injection-site reactions
Redness, itching, soreness or a small lump at the injection site is the commonest complaint with any subcutaneous injection. Ipamorelin goes into the fat layer of the abdomen or thigh, with sites rotated so the same spot is not used repeatedly. Technique is in how to inject peptides safely.
Flushing, warmth and light-headedness
A brief flush or head-rush feeling within minutes of dosing is described with growth-axis peptides, usually most noticeable in the first weeks. Light-headedness, including on standing, is also reported. Both are short-lived. Report either if it is marked or not settling.
Headache
Reported mostly early in a course. Report it if it persists across several doses, and treat a sudden, severe headache unlike any before as a reason to seek urgent care.
Hunger
This surprises people most. Ghrelin is the hunger hormone and ipamorelin is a ghrelin mimetic, so increased appetite is an on-target effect rather than a side effect in the usual sense. In the longest trial of a different ghrelin mimetic in healthy older adults, the appetite increase subsided within a few months. If weight management is one of your goals, say so at the outset, because that changes which product makes sense. Anyone with a history of an eating disorder should raise it specifically.
Vivid dreams
Reported with evening dosing across growth-axis peptides, and consistent with the change in deep sleep a growth hormone pulse produces. It is worth reporting: your care team can review the timing printed on your label. Do not change your own schedule.
Ipamorelin Side Effects
The dose signals: fluid, joints and hands
This group is not a list of rare dangers. It is the recognised pattern of more growth hormone than a person needs, and it is the most useful thing to understand about this class.
| What you notice | What is happening |
|---|---|
| Puffy hands, ankles or face | Growth hormone promotes sodium and water retention |
| Joint aches or morning stiffness | Follows the same fluid shift |
| Tingling or numbness in the hands | Soft-tissue swelling at the wrist, the classic carpal-tunnel pattern |
These are dose-related and described as settling when the dose is adjusted. The right response is a message to your care team on the first clear sign, not persistence and not a change you make yourself. Your physician sets your directions after reviewing your intake and how you are doing, and the new directions are printed on the vial. Numbness that does not resolve after your physician has adjusted things means the medication stops while they look.
For context on what too much growth hormone looks like, the reference point is a 2002 JAMA trial that gave recombinant growth hormone to healthy adults aged 65 to 88 for 26 weeks: swelling in 39 per cent of women on growth hormone against none on placebo, carpal tunnel symptoms in 32 per cent of men on growth hormone plus testosterone, and joint pain in 41 per cent of men on growth hormone. That trial used injected hormone, not a secretagogue, and its rates cannot be transferred to ipamorelin. It is cited because it defines the pattern: fluid, joints, nerves and glucose.
Ipamorelin Side Effects
Blood sugar
Growth hormone is counter-regulatory to insulin, so sustained increases reduce insulin sensitivity and can raise fasting glucose. A 2004 paper in Neuro Endocrinology Letters also reported ipamorelin evoking insulin release from rat pancreatic tissue, which is a cell finding and cuts both ways.
The closest long-duration human data in the class comes from a different compound: a 2008 randomised, placebo-controlled trial in the Annals of Internal Medicine gave an oral ghrelin mimetic daily to 65 healthy adults aged 60 to 81 for one to two years. Growth hormone and IGF-1 rose to young-adult levels, fasting glucose rose by an average of 5 mg/dL, insulin sensitivity fell, and the most frequent effects were an appetite increase that subsided within a few months plus transient, mild lower-leg swelling and muscle pain. That is a different molecule by a different route, which is exactly why it is quoted as class context rather than as ipamorelin data.
In practice: diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance is raised at intake and means closer attention rather than an automatic no, and anyone taking insulin or another glucose-lowering medication should say so. Shakiness, sweating or confusion in someone on those medications should be treated and then reported.
Ipamorelin Side Effects
The cancer question
Growth hormone and IGF-1 are growth signals. No evidence shows them causing cancer, but a tissue that is already malignant can respond to growth signals, which is why active cancer is the clearest reason a physician declines any growth-axis peptide, and a history in remission is a cautious conversation taken with the oncologist's view.
The observational background is a 2004 Lancet systematic review and meta-regression of 21 studies, which found that people in the upper quarter of the natural IGF-1 range had higher odds of prostate cancer and premenopausal breast cancer than those in the lower quarter. That literature concerns natural, lifelong IGF-1 levels, not peptide therapy, and cannot be read as a measured risk of treatment. It is the reason a careful prescriber aims for a physiological level rather than the highest attainable. More is in can peptides cause cancer.

When to message your care team, and what needs emergency care
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| Puffiness, joint aches or tingling hands | Message your care team; these are dose signals |
| Hunger, vivid dreams, flushing or headache that persists | Message your care team |
| Injection-site redness that is spreading, hot, or not fading | Message your care team |
| Shakiness, sweating or confusion if you take insulin or a sulfonylurea | Treat the low blood sugar, then report it the same day |
| Persistent severe headache, a change in vision, or fainting | Contact your care team the same day |
| Numbness that has not resolved after your directions were adjusted | Stop and contact your physician |
| Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, widespread hives, trouble breathing or swallowing | Call 911 or get emergency care first, then tell your care team |
| A large amount injected by mistake, or a dose taken by someone it was not prescribed for | Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 and message your care team |
Stop and contact your physician for any reaction that is severe, spreading, or involves difficulty breathing. Never skip, double or change a dose on your own; if you miss one, follow your directions and do not take two to make up for it.

Dosing errors
Ipamorelin's typical directions are 0.25 mL, which is 25 units on a U-100 insulin syringe; from the 1 mg/mL vial that is 0.25 mg per dose. Every Pepti product containing ipamorelin uses the same 25-unit draw, but at different concentrations, so the same volume carries between 0.25 mg and 0.6 mg of ipamorelin depending on the vial. Never carry a number over from a previous fill, and never dose from a chart you found online. If your label does not match what you expected, do not inject; message your care team. The arithmetic is in ipamorelin dosage and how long does a peptide vial last.

Who should not take ipamorelin, or should discuss it first
| Situation | Status |
|---|---|
| Active cancer | Growth signalling is avoided with active disease |
| Cancer history in remission | A cautious conversation, taken with your oncologist's view |
| Diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance | Not a bar; growth hormone reduces insulin sensitivity, so it needs closer attention |
| Pregnancy or breastfeeding | Not used; safety data is absent |
| Untreated severe sleep apnoea | Fluid retention and soft-tissue change can worsen it |
| Untreated hypothyroidism | Treated first; it changes the whole axis |
| A known pituitary condition, prior adenoma, surgery or radiation | The drug acts on that gland, so a physician usually looks elsewhere |
| Complete growth hormone deficiency | There is nothing for a secretagogue to stimulate; that is an endocrinologist's diagnosis |
| A history of an eating disorder | The appetite effect is worth raising specifically |
| Previous allergic reaction to ipamorelin or an ingredient of the vial | Rules it out |
| Under 18 | Pepti prescribes to adults only |
| Tested athletes | Prohibited at all times under WADA's 2026 list; a prescription is not an exemption |
Interactions, and other medications
There is no established interaction list, because the trials that would produce one have not been run. That is why the intake asks for every medication and supplement you take and a physician reviews it rather than a form. Two combinations worth naming: anything that lowers blood glucose, and testosterone, where growth hormone and testosterone have additive effects on the side-effect pattern as well as on lean mass; see can you take peptides with testosterone. Two growth-axis products from separate prescriptions should never be combined without the prescriber knowing about both.
Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account.

Ipamorelin vs the paired products
| Ipamorelin alone | CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin | |
|---|---|---|
| Signals | Ghrelin receptor only | Ghrelin receptor plus the GHRH receptor |
| Size of the growth hormone pulse | Smaller | Larger, because the two are described as additive |
| Side-effect categories | The same list | The same list, plus a larger signal to produce them |
| How quickly a dose change shows | Within hours; ipamorelin's half-life is about two hours | Slower, because the GHRH half acts for longer |
Adding a GHRH analogue changes the size of the signal, not just the number of peptides, so the dose signals above matter more rather than less in a pairing. CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin benefits covers the combination, and is CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin safe is the fuller safety page. Hexarelin is the older relative in the same class and, unlike ipamorelin, raises cortisol and prolactin with each dose.
Ipamorelin Side Effects
What the evidence shows, honestly
Ipamorelin's reported effects are mild, short-lived and consistent across prescribers, and both human studies described it as well tolerated. What does not exist is any long-term safety data, any data for the subcutaneous route, any interaction list, or any cohort followed for years. The class cautions of glucose intolerance, fluid retention and a theoretical concern about existing tumours apply until shown otherwise, which is the basis for the questions asked at intake.
Any provider describing ipamorelin as having no side effects, or as proven safe long term, is claiming something nobody has measured. The honest description is: mild effects in practice, a recognisable pattern when the signal is larger than a person needs, and real gaps your physician weighs against your history.

Where to get ipamorelin prescribed
Ipamorelin cannot be bought legitimately without a prescription. Products sold "for research use only" have no accountable pharmacy behind their identity, purity, sterility or concentration, so even the concentration your dose depends on is unknown. The prescription route:
- Complete a free online intake covering your history, medications and what you want help with.
- A physician licensed in your state reviews it, usually within 24 hours.
- If it is appropriate, a PCAB-accredited, FDA-registered US 503A compounding pharmacy prepares it to that prescription. Lot test results are published at /quality/lab-results.
- It ships refrigerated with ice packs, with sterile syringes and alcohol prep pads, and your directions printed on the vial.
- Your care team stays reachable for side effects and questions. Refills run every 28 days, one vial per fill.
Pepti prescribes ipamorelin in every state except Oklahoma, plus DC The step-by-step page is how to get ipamorelin prescribed online.

Common questions
Ipamorelin Side Effects, answered.
Most commonly injection-site redness or soreness, headache, flushing or warmth after a dose, light-headedness, hunger, and vivid dreams with evening dosing. Less commonly fluid retention, joint aches and tingling hands, which signal more growth hormone than a person needs.
It was described as well tolerated in both human studies that exist, but the longest human exposure on record is seven days and there is no data for the subcutaneous route. What makes it reasonable in practice is screening at intake and a prescriber who adjusts the directions at the first dose signal. The fuller analysis is in is CJC-1295 / Ipamorelin safe.
Often, yes. It acts at the receptor ghrelin, the hunger hormone, uses, so increased appetite is an on-target effect. In the longest trial of a different ghrelin mimetic, the appetite increase subsided within a few months.
It can, and that is the recognised sign of growth hormone above what a person needs, along with joint aches and tingling hands. Message your care team rather than changing anything yourself.
Growth hormone reduces insulin sensitivity, so it can. Diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance belongs on your intake and means closer attention rather than an automatic no. Anyone on insulin or another glucose-lowering medication should say so.
In the founding pig study it released growth hormone without raising ACTH or cortisol above what GHRH produced, and did not affect prolactin. That is why it is preferred over older compounds in its class for courses that run for weeks. It has not been measured directly in humans at compounded doses.
Vivid dreams are commonly reported with evening growth-axis dosing. Report it; your care team can review the timing on your label.
No evidence shows it does. Growth hormone and IGF-1 are growth signals, and a tissue that is already malignant can respond to them, which is why active cancer is a reason a physician declines and a history in remission is a careful conversation.
Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, widespread hives, or trouble breathing or swallowing: call 911 first. A sudden severe headache, a change in vision or fainting needs same-day contact.
The common ones are described as short-lived, within the hours after a dose, and as easing over the first weeks. Ipamorelin's half-life is about two hours, so an effect from the dose itself does not linger for days.
No withdrawal or rebound is described in the literature, because the pituitary was never suppressed; it was asked for a pulse. If you want to stop, tell your care team so your refills and your plan are updated. What happens when you stop taking peptides covers this.
No. Bloodwork is not required for any Pepti treatment. If your physician wants labs for your care, they'll ask through your account. The free assessment goes to a physician licensed in your state. A consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
