There is no trial-established timeline for injectable Selank, because the human studies used the intranasal Russian product and the subcutaneous form has not been the subject of a published trial. The human evidence is three small Russian comparator trials (2008, 2014, 2015) of 60 to 70 patients each, which measured anxiety on clinician-rated scales over courses of weeks against a benzodiazepine, not placebo. One reported the effect persisting about a week after the last dose, and a marker study described immune changes over fourteen days of treatment. The faster timings in the literature, such as gene changes an hour after a dose, come from rats.

All the human data comes from the groups that developed the molecule, none of it was placebo-controlled, and none of it used injection.

Because the comparator was a benzodiazepine, the trials show "similar to medazepam" rather than "better than nothing." Blinding and randomisation are not described in the published abstracts, and the results have not been replicated by an independent group outside Russia. A 2021 review in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology characterised Selank as poorly studied outside its country of origin. None of that tells you how long the injection takes. What each line of research tells you about timing
Weeks: the anxiety trials
The 2008 Zozulya trial assessed patients on Hamilton, Zung and CGI scales over a course of treatment and reported a similar anxiolytic effect to medazepam, with Selank also described as anti-asthenic and mildly activating. The 2014 Medvedev trial against phenazepam reported a pronounced anxiolytic effect, a mild nootropic effect, improved quality-of-life scores, and an effect persisting about a week after the last dose. The trials used a formal side-effect scale and reported no sedation, no memory impairment, no dependence signal and no withdrawal over the study periods. The trials measured change over a few weeks, not after a single dose.
Alongside a benzodiazepine
The 2015 trial of 70 patients reported that adding Selank to phenazepam brought the benzodiazepine's effect on earlier and reduced its side effects, during treatment and after the benzodiazepine was withdrawn. That is the only studied combination, done under supervision. It is not a reason to add Selank to a benzodiazepine on your own; anyone on psychiatric medication raises it at intake.
Fourteen days: immune markers
Uchakina and colleagues reported a shift in the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance over fourteen days of treatment in patients with anxiety-asthenic disorders. That is a blood marker, not a clinical benefit, and Pepti does not prescribe Selank for immune purposes.
Hours: rat and cell work
A 2016 Frontiers in Pharmacology study reported changes in 45 of 84 neurotransmission genes in rat frontal cortex an hour after Selank. A 2018 paper described Selank changing how GABA binds to rat brain-cell membranes, in the manner of a positive allosteric modulator. These are mechanism findings in animal tissue. An hour in a rat brain is not an hour in a person.

- Safety over years of use; the trials ran for weeks.
Selank acetate was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's 503A bulk drug substances list on 29 September 2023 and removed on 27 September 2024, after the nominator said it had intended to nominate a different substance. It has never been reviewed by the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee and remains legal to prescribe. Selank is not FDA approved, and compounded medications are not FDA approved.
